Puppy Teeth! Please Help! Hello All. I'm just looking for some help, I have a 6 and a half month old Yorkie/Maltese cross, and as expected he is teething. I had a little look in his mouth earlier to see how they were doing, and he seems to have two full sets of teeth. He has got most of his 'Adult' teeth, but none of his 'Baby' teeth have fallen out yet. I have read on the internet that this is quite a common thing and they will be taken out when he is neutered, BUT, he has already been neutered! Should I take him to the vets? Or will they fall out in their own time? They don't seem to be bothered him at all, but he is chewing lots. Any help would be great. Thanks Guys :) :aimeeyork |
Both of my babies had double (adult and baby) upper and lower canine teeth. Brody had lost all his baby teeth by the time he was a year old. Rhianna held on to her two top baby canine teeth until she was 16 months old. Personally, I'd wait and see. . .I used to wiggle them nightly and also chewing on a nylabone or rawhide bone really helps alot! |
Thanks for the reply - I really appreciate it. :) Did your pups ever have two full sets? Or was it just the Canines? Alfie seems to have lost none of his baby teeth and yet have a full set of adult teeth too. I will leave them for now and see how he goes, just give him plenty to chew on!! Atleast they don't seem to be bothering him at all. Thanks again for your reply! :animal-pa:aimeeyork |
My Tucker had two sets of teeth also and he was also already neutered so we went in to have the vet take a look at six months old and decided to let him take them out. I had him save a couple teeth for me and after seeing them there was no way that those canine teeth would have came out by themselves so I am glad we went ahead and had them taken out before they started to cause any problems in his mouth. Good luck to you and your baby. |
Jack has two sets of teeth now also. He is a purebred Yorkshire Terrier. He has finally lost one of his teeth and the others, well, they are hanging around. Jack is 6 months old. He is chewing on everything too. My vet didn't seem too worried about the fact that he has two sets of teeth right now. I would wait a while and see if they fall out. I've heard it can take up to a year for them to fall out. Good luck. |
A bully stick worked for us! We've tried everything...and just started giving her bully sticks! A bonus was the loss of all but 1 of her extra teeth! so excited. |
My girl had both top and bottom rows of double teeth. Vet wanted to wait until 7mos to spay, however, one day I noticed she was struggling to eat her food. When I looked in her mouth, I saw she had not lost the baby teeth. I call my vet, he scheduled her for Friday the same week. She did fine, but vet said that poor little thing had to have been miserable with all that pressure in such a small mouth and it would have messed up her adult teeth alignment. Zhoie had a spay, 13 teeth removed and birth umb. hernia done all at the same time. |
I would have him checked by the vet. If you wait too long it can cause his bite to go off and cause rapid tooth decay with food getting caught between the two rows and then of course there is the bad breath. |
