No sutures? I was looking at Lollis incision today, as requested by the vet to check every day. Well we have her in this onesie deal instead of an e-collar as so many people suggested and it was way cheaper.. So we have to take it off her butt to let her use the bathroom, the trouble is the first night we had to keep it off all night because we figured she would need to go as she wasn't really awake most of that day.. but she wasn't doing much activity that night anyway especially not bending to lick or anything. But then this morning.. my mom had her to go to the bathroom (it's been raining so hard here for 3 days that we have been letting her 'go' on newspaper on the lanai) but didn't snap her butt back into the onesie for a couple hours before I woke up. I told her to do so so I don't know why she didn't.. anyways.. So I was checking the incision and its only about 1 inch long, is that normal or am I just not seeing the rest of it? Also I didn't seem to really see any sutures, and no strings laying around the floor either if she had pulled them. But it also looks not swollen, but red-ish just on this weird lumpy part that is the length of the incision. She was spayed thursday in the late morning so is this a normal redness? And why can't I see the actual sutures? The wound isn't bleeding or like I said there is no swelling, just kind of like hard to explain. It's like if you have a deep scar, how it bulges out just a little. The vet is closed on the weekends apparently so I thought I'd ask opinions here first before trying to call their emergency center, as it might not really be an emergency as I have no experience with spaying dogs they've always already been. I might be able to get a picture of it, she lets me look at it with ease she thinks I'm gonna rub her belly, which I do :P She doesn't seem in pain or uncomfortable or anything or trying to mess with the incision even though shes got the onesie on now. She's almost as active as normal, but I think the onesie has her confused she isn't quite 100% as 'normal' yet but she's not overly lethargic or anything. She comes when you call her, eats and drinks and goes potty normally. Everything is fine other than the wound thing which could be normal, I wouldn't know! |
Yes it sounds completely normal. It is also possible your vet used glue instead of sutures or staples. |

If there are sutures why can't I see them? I remember seeing them on my 2 female cats when they were spayed years ago. |
My vet uses dissolving stitches and sort of folds the skin over so the stitches are almost on the inside. You end up with kind of a lumpy looking incision with no visible stitches. That way you never have to worry about the dog removing them. My vet uses dissolving but I have also seen this done with the kind that have to be removed. |
They do internal stitches and then close with super glue. Mine all had this procedure and yes everything reads normal to me. |
Well now she peed in her onesie. I don't really know how to do this successfully since it has been raining we are letting her go when she has to out on the lanai because we are supposed to keep the area dry and the grass is wet obviously from all the rain sooo yeah. We have the back door open a little because we turned the AC off also it's cool enough outside, so she must have went when I was in another room or something I don't even know. Well she's dry mostly down there but still there was wetness there before. Should we use some warm water on a washcloth to wipe down around the wound from the pee or just leave it or what should we do? How can we do this successfully? We've only had the onesie off her to wash for 10 mins and she wants to lick. I even tried gently tying a thin hand towel around the area so it's not too tight but she pushed it aside. ARGH |
I know how you feel, I just had Remy neuter yesterday and I thought I would see stings but all I see is a little fold. :animal36 Im glad she is doing okay. My Remy had a good night. And he pee in his oneis too. LOL Im glad I got a 3 pk. |
Lola just had her surgery Thursday. We're keeping her in a onesie and only unsnapping the bottom to take her out. We are taking her outside, even though there is a tiny bit of snow on the ground, the vet said it would be fine. She goes out to do her business, then I carry her right back in and snap her back up. Her incision looks very much the same as you're describing, her stitches are going to dissolve on their own. I would say try taking your baby outside to do her business. If it's raining, use an umbrella to hold over her. I don't think that would get her incision wet enough to worry about and would probably be easier for both of you. If the onesie isn't working, do you have an e-collar to use? The vet gave us one but we haven't needed it yet. |

I took a warm wet cloth and just wiped around the area and not on the area and the parts of her hair around that were damp from her peeing in the onesie on accident. I'm posting a picture, I hope this is not against rules. It's not too gross I don't think so maybe it'll be okay. Please let me know if this is against rules for future reference. Just wanted you all to see what I am seeing to make sure we are OK. Attachment 301335 |
I'm not a vet, (I don't even play one on TV:D) but I will say that Lola looks almost the same, except she has a bright red spot where she's bruised from the hernia work. Lola still doesn't want to walk a lot, mostly sits in my lap, but a lot of that seems to be from the onesie. She walks just fine when she's in the yard to do her business, so it must be the enclosed feeling. You're probably right with your grass being so thick, inside is better. I haven't left Lola alone at all, she's either on my lap or DH's lap. The vet said it was very important to have complete supervision for the first week or so...it's like having a newborn all over again! They told us that it was most important that neither she nor Toby licked the area, and that does take watching allllll the time! |

My mom works from home and I am home most of the time, too. So we do keep watch her but you know our eyes can't be watching them 100% of the time. She sleeps a lot on her blanket and for example right now is on the couch with us. But yeah, she sometimes gets through the towel we have around her at the moment while her onesie is getting washed and dryed. But she should be ok up on the couch with us now that we've finished having dinner, etc. She doesn't get to it very long, though. It's just stressing me out!! I don't know what to do if this accident happens again in her onesie. |
This is how Remy incision look and he got his done yesterday. Sorry I cant get the picture to upload for some reason but if you in my album under Remy, you can see how his look, and his is only 1 day old |
We gave in and just bought an e-collar by Soft Cone I think is the name. We got it at Pet Supermarket for $17.99 it just velcros closed. It's nice and soft and cushiony they can lay on it but its still stiff enough that it keeps her from being able to lick anything. She peed in her onesie a 2nd time and I just decided to go out and get the collar instead. We were out doing a bit of christmas shopping and the porch doors were closed but she has had accidents on this one rug in the living room when we first got her once or twice and she must have tried to go there, though there is no evidence but it's the only thing I can think of why she'd pee inside because she NEVER has but it would have been about the time when we'd take her out or let her out on the porch to go. We weren't much later coming home though but yeah.. She seems ok otherwise, just upset about this e-collar deal. She keeps trying to get it off somehow and wobbling about. I guess it messes with their balance a little? |
