HELP!!!! Can someone please recommend best weight reduction food for Reese.
 

Reese has been on Dick Van Patterns Ultra weight reduction kibble. It seems like a highly rated food but she is continuing to gain weight and not lose.

I only give her about 1/8 to 1/4 cup twice daily which does not seem to be much at all.

She is always starving.

She gets baby carrots sometimes up to 6 a day since she crys all day for food and some cherios which my vet said were fine and hopefully low in fat and sugar. I now know that I should add string beans again, which she isn't too fond of, but than again she will eat almost anything short of dirt and styrofoam.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. She is up to a whopping 12.2 pounds and should probably be no more than 8 or highest 9 based on her past and frame type. She is 7 years old.

She is now snorting like a "real" pig and the vet has said that this is due to her weight and probably not being able to breath well. We thought it was her new way to communicate and of course thought it was cute. It really doesn't appear that it is a breathing problem but I will have to go with what my vet tells us.

Please, please help.. I want to keep her as healthy as possible and ensure a healthy, comfortable and long life. We were just told she has dry eye and will be on ointment twice daily for life. I certainly do not want any additional health problems like diabetes or thyroid issues.

Thanks so much for anyone who can recommend a good weight reduction food. She has been on a new med for weight loss as well, which did not work and made me feel uncomfortable using a medication. I would rather WE do it the natural way. I know how important exercise is, but this girl just doesn't believe in it. We end up dragging her down the street to walk. She has no desire to run around the yard or even take slow long or short walks.

Have you had her checked out physically? Have they done a full thyroid panel and blood work? If not I think I would go the route of testing her health to be sure there isn't an underlying condition that is causing the weight gain before feeding her a weight loss diet.

Every few years she is tested for thyroid issues and other possibilities.. in fact
 

I am waiting as I type for my vet to call back with her results. She had various blood work (inclduing thyroid) done yesterday.

If all comes back negative I would then like to try a different weight reduction food. She has been on so many and it seems like none have really helped her.

I am sure her major problem is that she has ZERO exercise. She is wee wee pad trained as her number one method but also does go outside when I take her for walks..if you can call them walks. She will make both and then tug to go back in the house. If outside she usually lies or sits down and just observes. She will barely walk a block without tugging me to take her home. If I try to force the issue she will lie down and just drag as I pull her. I certainly do not want to risk choking her or causing her any pain. She will win 9 out of ten times and I will turn around and she will happily go on her way HOME!

I would also wonder about her thyroid.
If all comes out well, you could go to Innova Senior; however, the NB should be working. At this point I'd probably go with an rx food designed for weight loss. For some dogs, the regular low fat dog food is still too high in calories.
