Anyone have some advise COLLAPSED TRACHEA I have a 5month of Yorkie and she has all the sign of collapsed trachea. If anyone has experienced this before please can you give me some advise as to what to do and how to deal with this. I have read that most Yorkies/toy breed dogs get this decease from adolescence and older. She is only 5 months now so is it possible for her to be getting it now????? Then there is the possibility of tonsillitis causing the coughing as well. I would really appreciate all the info i can get regarding this. Thank you. |
Collapsed trachea Do a search using COLLAPSED TRACHEA and you'll find tons of info. |
Id bet it probally kennel cough where she us so young!! |
Before I got my Yorkie....I read everything on the breed for 3 years & it took me that long before I felt comfortable with a breeder. And my understanding of the trachea problem was that it showed up later....hence the reason why you would look for a well established breeder. So I agree with Jean M......that its probably Kennel cough or just something he or she picked up that is causing her to cough.....good luck....keep us updated!! :animal-pa |
I would take her to the vet and not jump to any conclusions. Yes, I agree could just be kennel cough and also reverse sneezing.... |
I agree could be kennel cough which can be treated and resolved. My yorkies that had collapsed tracheas were all over 5 years of age when they started having symptoms. |
Hi all. Thank you so much for all the advise. I will keep u updated as we go along. Thanks again. |
Yes, please. I have a 13 yo with a partial colapsed traches & he is doing very well. But first let's hope the doc rules it out. |
If you think there may be any issue at all, please make sure you are not using a collar/leash combo with her, but always a harness. It doesn't take much pulling with a collar/leash to cause tracheal damage. |
When I first got Maddie she was also coughing alot and the vet also think it might be TRACHEA problem. She was on anitbiotic for about 1 month.the coughing finaly stop. Maddie is almost 10 month old now. She had not cough since. but now she is having reverse sneeze. |
Thanks guys. Lienkie has however stopped with the coughing, i think it might have been kennel cough as she is at the parlor at least once a month. I will have her inoculated against this for the future. She has stopped with the coughing so i hope she healed by herself. If it starts again i will definitely take her in to the Vet to be checked out. Tanks for all the advise from all the replies. Really do appreciate it. |
