Help Needed!
 
hi,
Cleo and Max seem to be scared of eating their dinner. It started i 2 weeks ago when Cleo started so shake and not eat her dinner max still did) then we had to put her in Max's bed for her to eat her dinner and then the last week Max started to copy what Cleo was doin and not i have to feed them both by hand because i'm scared of them getting ill if they don't eat.

I have no idea what has started this sorry, any idea's on how to get them to eat without getting scared?

what are you feeding my guy stop eating some of his food because it was upsetting his tummy.

stop hand feeding them. Move their food bowl to a different area.

If the food is not upsetting them when you hand feed them, then it can't be the food.

The more fuss you make and the more you watch them the more nervous they will get.

If you hover around them when they are eating, they might think the food is yours, and they will not eat it because dogs will not eat the pack leaders food.

Move the bowl to a different spot, put it down and walk away.

i have moved their food several times and stopped hand feeding them and they are still not eating when its dinner time. we're taking them to the vets on saturday so if their still not eating properly by then is it worth asking the vets?

This is a long shot, but are they metal bowls, and possibly getting shocked by running on the carpet and touching the bowls? If they're metal, maybe switch to porcelain, in the winter...That or a name tag clanking against metal might upset them...

I agree with this... maybe the bowl... Alice wont eat out of a metal bowl... I feed her with the plastic ones she didnt seem to like porcelian eather and I figured that it made to much noise... also she wouldnt eat in a room like the kitchen because there is so much to distract her people walking around taking, dishwasher, exc. She has her own room (well she sares with the cats...) but I did notice she eats better when its quiet and her own area... I keep her food, litterbox, bed, toys, exc. in there so its like her own area where she feels the most comfortable and spends the most time... No problems since everything has been in one room...

I was going to suggest switching food bowls, too. Most of mine don't care where the food is when it's time to eat, but Murphy just won't eat out of regular dishes. :p I think maybe it's the noise of the kibble moving around & clicking against the dish. Anyway, Murphy would love it if I just put his food straight on the floor for him (he moves it there anyway before he starts chewing). :rolleyes:

All the suggestions are great !! One other thing - how are their teeth ? I don't know how old they are but the food could also be hurting their teeth - the only thing is - if they're both doing this then maybe it isn't that ...it's just a thought

My cocker Tessa (RIP baby) had a very bad underbite and would not eat out of a bowl - she couldn't pick up the food - once I put it on a plate she did eat - but let me tell you - she was EIGHT years old before she ate from her dish - We hand fed her every day

Do they eat other times during the day? Or are they not eating at all?

Surely they have not gone this long without eating?

Maybe they just are not hungry at dinner time. I put the food out in the morning and they eat little bits all day long, some days they eat it all, but more often they do not.

If they are active and peeing and pooping, I would not worry about it, but if they appeer sick then by all means take them in.

I have one little one that will not eat out of a cat size metal bowl. I have to put it on a flat plate...or she won't eat.

we have wooden floor downstairs and they only have with tags on when they go out for a walk

they don't eat much during the day and they have a few (not that many) treats when ever i try and work on a new trick.

well Max is 6 months and his baby teeth have started to come out (well before this all happened so don't think it's that) and Cleo is nearly 2

i do leave their food out for them in the morning so if they want it they can have it so they dont go without food

My little guy won't eat out of a metal bowl because when his tag hits it he gets scared. He likes a flat little dish. Also a metal bowl sometimes will scare a dog when he looks into it they see a reflection. I had a Rotti once that was like that. Try a different bowl it really might make a big difference.

they have both been eating from their bowls since we had them (Cleo has her bowl when she was with her previous owner and was fine when we got her
