How to save a lot of money on Frontline Plus Did you know that .... you can buy the largest dose of Frontline Plus and you will get 6 applications out of it if you have multiple Yorkies or even if you have only 1 or 2. What you do is break it open and put it in a medicine bottle. Apply it with a syringe. The dose for a dog under 22 lbs is 0.6 so that is what you apply. I was informed of this by another breeder and my vet said that is fine to do. Each Frontline Plus dose costs $15 (varies by vet / supplier) for the small or large dog dose. I had been paying $15 per dog. I am going to save big bucks now! |
Yes, I do that having 6 yorkies myself. One of the large dosages does all my babies for 1 month. |
Yup, I do that too. Make sure it's in an airtight bottle, stored away from the sun. The dose is actually .67ml. |
That's what I do for my guys too...a vet told me once to do that. |
Thanks for the correction on the dose. I figured a lot of you all knew but I wanted to pass it along to someone who had no idea like I did before a friend told me. Let me also add that I was at a university animal hospital the other day and they said that IF you have any trouble with fleas that they recommend Frontline every 3 weeks. |

I am not sure about that, I myself try really, really hard to keep as much chemicials out of my babies system that I can, so I do once a month. Also once the first freeze happens here in my neck of the woods, I don't do frontline, which usually November is their last dose, until April 1st, then we start all over again. |
Great advise:thumbup:. My vet actually recommend that I split the <22lb dose between my two dogs, Copper is liver compromised and Maddie is pretty small so he has always had me put half on each... no fleas to date:) I also am pretty cautious about putting too many chemicals in there little systems, so this makes me feel better. |
That is a very good tip. I will confirm with my vet. Now that I have 4 babies that will save me some money. Thanks for the info!! |
I do the same thing too, I have 6 and one tube will do all 6. I did have to put tape on the syringe to mark it though because the frontline took all the numbers off. |
Thanks for the helpful tip!:) |
Thanks so much for that tip! So, let me be sure I got this straight. I need to buy the dose for the large dog, I think when I just looked on 1800 pet meds the highest weight was 89lbs& up. Do I need that one or a smaller weight dosage to split up? |
I use the 89-132 lbs and it will do 6 yorkies. |

I am not 100% sure YorkieLovin. I just bought the largest dose my vet had and they said it was the largest dose available. I was able to split it 6 ways. |
I bought from an ebay seller. It came with a dose for a large dog, a little vial with screw-on lid, a little syringe, plus a dosage sheet for about $25. I only use it when necessary--during flea season. Because there is such a difference between a 7 lb yorkie and a 22lb dog, I used the dosage for a cat, (.5) That gave me 8 doses. In the future I am going to buy from Costco and let my daughter have the extra for her lab. |
I have 4 yorkies. I have been doing this for a long time. Thats the only way i can supply 4 yorkies. I buy mine from ebay but i didnt think about just buying from my vet and save on shipping. I think from now on i will just buy from my vet. |
This is a good tip and a real money saver although i do use Sentinel which takes care of the fleas also and have never had any problems with fleas, How does everyone handle the cost of the heartworm meds, I know i spend a fortune on them each month. |
My two are on Advantage Multi I wonder if you can do the same for it? |
