Can you feel your Yorkie's MicroChip?
 
Rio just got microchipped (with spay and dental extractions) 2 days ago - I was cuddling with her and I can feel her little microchip! It's like a tiny tube, about 1/2" long.

Is that normal? A little background - she's a tiny yorkie, just 2.6 lbs at almost 9 months old, and not very chunky/meaty. She isn't underweight but she doesn't have a lot of fat. I just got a little shocked that I could actually feel the microchip.

Have any of you experienced this?

I can feel the microchips in all of my babies. It was really noticeable right after they were inserted. Over time they'll move some and maybe settle in a little deeper. What you're feeling on her is normal. :)

I can find Couver's microchip if I search for it... He is not a tiny boy (7 lbs), so it would make sense that you are able to feel your pups more. I wouldn't worry about it... it's nice to know its there though!!

Galahad got chipped this morning around 10:30, and I cannot feel his so far. He's about 6 pounds.

yeah...I can feel Pixie's...it feels a bit like a grain of rice under her skin...I check it sometimes as i thought i read somewhere that they can sometimes migrate under the skin...correct me if i'm wrong someone?:confused:

Yikes! You do have a tiny one! My little Penny is tiny too and I can feel her chip. Hers migrated down her leg a bit, weird! Oh, it started at the top of her shoulder.

How much did that cost you to have the chip put in?

We got the AVID chip, the vet charged us $25 to implant it. Then we filled out the registration paperwork and sent that in along with the lifetime registration fee, which was $19.50. The only other time we'll have to pay them anything ($6) is when we move and need to change the address on our account.

Chester is microchipped, but I can't feel it. I did have them scan it at the vet just so I could know here exactly it was. I know its in there, but can't feel it.

My friend said that yes, the chip migrates and it's totally normal. Kind of freaks me out though!

Hmmm...Sugar was 1lbs when I first got her, microchipped. But I didn't feel it ;)
