Vet questions :aimeeyork My puppy is going to the vet for the first time what tests should she have? |
They usually want to check for intestinal worms and heartworms. Then start them on the first of three rounds of puppy shots. They need a round every couple of months and then once a year after that. |
I'm confused, is this the 6 month old pup that has been having health issues or a different pup. How old is the pup? |
Shes 6 months i was only asking because i wanted to go over the questions i first asked and if i should have asked other questions. Yes she was taken to the emergency room on sunday and today she is going for blood work, so i just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing any tests she should have while shes there...:aimeeyork |
So she got her rabies and other vaccinations before you got her? I think the most important thing is to have the blood work done and have a fecal examine. The vet will give her a regular checkup on top of that. If you have any records from any previous vet visits then take that with you. Has this vet seen her before? How has she been doing? |
Since Yorkies are 36 times more likely to be born with a liver shunt than all other breeds combined, Dr. Center recommends that all Yorkie puppies have a bile acid test done once they are five months old. Not only will it rule out a liver shunt, it can prevent very expensive and invasive testing later on like ultrasounds and biopsies. Should your Yorkie have elevated bile acids for any reason in the future, your vet will have a baseline to compare to. |
