Yuck eyes!!!! My furbaby has the yuckie eyes:eek:! I've heard about the apple cider vinegar in the water and I've tried it and she doesnt drink the water. I heard it can also come from what she eats. I need some advice on this please. She currently eats Taste of the Wild and Deli Fresh, but only Deli fresh once a day (like a snacky snack) any suggestions on what I should use or be doing to keep her eyes from getting that yucky gunk. I cleanse her eyes daily and she has no problem with me doing so but I just hate to see it an its not attractive. Plus I dnt want it to get in her eyes and mess with her vision. Any/All advice welcome..Thank you in advance:) P.S I'm thinking about switching her over to Wellness. Received some samples so we're gonna start trying that soon and I know not to switch it drastically. Thanks again |
I have read quite a few various posts about the cruddy eye thing. There are lots of reasons that your babies eyes could be getting goopy. It could be a small allergy or the diet. Some people use products such as Angel Eyes and others just switch the diet and it helps their babies. As for your food inquiery, really it just depends on the quality of food. A good reference is here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ing-chart.html you can see on the bottom of the first post what kinds of kibbles have a good 'grade'. Some people on the forums as well as just other companies have a list here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html most of them you can ask for samples and you can see this way if it may help your dog or if they will even like the food. Wellness seems to have an excellent grade so you could definitely try that one. It may or may not fix the problem. You will just have to try and see if it works, if not then you will have to find another thing to try. It really is trial and error, if you look in the Health and Diet section (and some in grooming) there are plenty of posts about how you can help your babies eyes and eliminating down to what the cause of it is. Hope this helps at all. :) |
Wellness and Wellness Core gave my boy eye drainage pretty bad...he's been on Orijen for about 2 weeks and his eyes are alot better. TOTW is supposed to be pretty good food though.. |
The very first thing to do is have a vet check the eyes. Then, if there is no infection, or dry eye is not a problem, look for other solutions! |
Hi, I had a problem with my little guys eyes no matter what I fed him. My vet and groomer both told me to try giving him bottled water. Within a few days the yuck was gone. We have city water and I guess the minerals and chlorine was the problem. Now I just boil it and still no yuck. Worth a try. |
Distilled water helped Baxter's eyes a lot but didn't completely prevent tearing. Also - keeping the hair out of his eyes helps a lot. |
We use distilled water and apple cider vinegar and have switched from Science Diet small bites to TOTW. We are in the country and not close to any stores that sell the specialty foods. Our tractor supply carries the TOTW and it along with changing the water has helped. We are also growing out the hair on the nose and between the eyes. I think once we get the hair long enough to lay correctly we will see an even bigger difference. |
I have had Lucky on TOTW for about 3 months and I think it's great! He was a very picky eater until this food...he seems to like it quite a bit! |
My Maddie started out with gunky eyes and it turned out to be a much BIGGER problem than we ever imagined. I recommend having a vet check her eyes just to be safe.;) Good Luck! |

I read a post where the person feeds NV, it has the apple cidar vinegar in it. She said the eye boogers on her baby cleared up. I think I will try that next. It would be great if it cleared up the eye boogers on Buster. |

How much ACV are you putting in the water? You have to start small and work your way up so they can adjust to the taste. ACV will also aid in digestion and eliminate odor from their poop. It has LOTS of benefits other than leveling out the Ph. |
Thanks for all the advice Im gonna check with the vet first and then try other solutions if its nothing medical.:thumbup::thumbup: |

I tried using dstilled water, bottled water, and adding ACV and nothing has helped. From what I have read about many people's past experiences with Wellness, it made the eye gunk problem worse. Hopefully it will not be the same for you. Good luck with finding a solution! |
