licking My yorkie has picked up the habit of licking his food bowl. After eating, and sometimes just randomly in the middle of the day he will go over and lick his and our other dogs bowls. Not just 'oh, a few crumbs left!' licking, but obsessive licking. He will sit there 20 minutes, maybe longer (never really timed him) before I finally stop him. Is this normal? I know yorkies like to lick..but it just seems a bit obsessive to me. Thanks! |
Probably trying to make food appear lol...I'd just pick up all the bowls and plates...I have to pick up Apple's plate, right after she eats, because she eats raw, and if she went back and licked at a later time, she might pick up some bacteria...I have to wash her plate, thoroughly, with hot soap and water, after both meals...But I hear kibble can have bacteria in it too! |
I think he's still hungry. When that happens here I'll say 'Are you hungry?' I'll get a major Yorkie head cock and sometimes a jump in the air so I feed her. She eats twice a day but if I'm off by an hour or so she'll even chew at the bowl. The other one will will just slam her empty bowl across the floor and give me a loud bark. |
I would tend to agree with the post above...sounds like your Yorkie is still hungry. Do you leave any kibble out for free feeding? (Of course, that wouldn't help ours because she would starve before eating kibble, I think.) Perhaps if you don't want to feed any more, you could give a treat or something to tide the puppy/dog over until next feeding time or perhaps a bully stick to chew on. I know this may sound simplistic but since humans sometimes eat from boredom, maybe your pet does, too. Have you tried playing a game to entice away from the food bowl? It might be worth a try if you don't want to feed any more. |
