Delicate Stomach
 

I have a girl with a delicate stomach who is currently eating the id diet. My big guy Jake eats it as well but is a 18lb tank and doesn't really need it. My puppy is going to be ready for adult food soon and I would love to get them on the same food. I don't think the id diet is good for him so I was wondering if there is a food for delicate stomachs that would be good for my other yorkies as well. It is so hard feeding them all seperate diets they always want what everyone else is eating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

is it diarhea or vomitting you are referring to with delicate stomach? a limited ingredient diet can help. Sounds like your dog my have inflammatory bowel disease if vomitting or diarhea - sadly you have to go with what works when dogs have this. I feed all of mine separate foods as they have health issues and i just feed them separately twice a day

Can you describe what you mean by "delicate stomach"? Like what happens? That may help for giving recommendations. Also, is she doing well on the iD? If yes, please list the ingredients so people can look for something similar for you. :)

She is doing well on the id. She is 2 yrs old and has been sick with no eating, throwing up with blood, diarrhea with blood about 4 times. Each time results in a hospital stay and a lot of worry. She has gone on the id after her first hospital stay so she still gets sick even on the id but she was throwing up a few times a week and now on the id she doesn't.

I'm even wondering if it pays to take a chance. I did try life's abundance and she didn't do well on that so I put her back on the id.

Personally i would not take a chance. My dog has ibd and he is on purina ha and he will get it for life - I spent 10k on him over a year and not willing to chance any other food. It has worked for 4 years now and no way will i risk it as one thing can lead to another and vet bills are not cheap - do not break what is not broke and stick to what works. I feed mine all separately in the office twice a day 12 hrs apart and that is it and they get their kibble for a treat so i do not mess with it as it can lead to pancreatitis what you are describing and you do NOT want to have a dog with pancreatitis which can lead to epi or diabetes. My dog almost died from pancreatitis and it is very expensive to treat and many die and it runs in this bread. It can stem from ibd in the small intestines triggering the pancreas. If your dog is having diarhea and vomitting it is large and small intestines and can be tied to colitis as well as dex never had blood or diarhea only massive vomitting so what you are describing is more stress colitis with blood in stool and vomit but it is the entire intestinal tract. Do not chance it or you may be asking for more vet bills and more health issues - stick to what works

Thank you. The more I think about it the more I agree. Although it is hard when eveyone is on a different diet it is best to leave well enough alone.:)

yeah you may have more hassle if your pup gets sick again from another food than just feeding separately - i use it as my computer time and feed all three separately twice a day

I completely agree w/ Dwerten. If your kiddo's tummy is finally doing well on the iD after all you described, I would not change a single, solitary thing. Not w/ those kinds of issues...too dangerous. Keep it simple, keep her safe. :)
