carsick! My puppy is about 4 and a half months old and gets SOOOOO car sick! She gets really really drooly within 2 minutes when we are in the car and sometimes she vomits, too. Our vet told us to take her on lots of short car rides, but that doesn't seem to help at all. We take our other Yorkie everywhere with us and hate to have to leave Lucy at home......I have small dogs to go with my busy lifestyle... I take them EVERYWHERE! Does anyone have any suggestions that may help my poor little girl? Thanks :) |
A lot of Natural Pet food stores should have a type of remedy drop. Good luck! |
mines use to do that. her mouth look like a water fountain and the next thing you know vomit is in the seat. I take her around the block a couple of times to get use to it then she will be good to go. Just take her every once in awhile in the car so she can get use to the ride and the movement of the car. Even let her stick her head outside the window to get fresh air. |
I have heard that ginger snaps before a car ride, the ginger is good for the tummy, worth a try |
Maggie has FINALLY outgrown or gotten used to riding. She was like a water fountain or geyser, lol. She got carsick and sick on the boat. You could just see it happening in her eyes and face. Hot Rod got sick at first-when I had him in a carrier on the seat of the car. Once I got him in the snoozer carseat, where he could look out, he was fine. It did help to ride around with Maggie. Each trip she lasted a little bit longer and eventually she was able to make just about into the driveway before getting sick. I don't know if it was riding with her or the snoozer but she is like a jack in the box in the carseat. lol She is constantly looking out at all the scenery and traffic. Good luck, it's not fun when they are throwing up. |
Sugar has the problem too, but she's not that serious. Some times I bring her to my office, it's about 25 minutes by car, she vomited when we were about to reach, it happened 2 times, she vomited in the carrier at the exact time. So I brought her to my office on Thursday. I decided not to use the carrier, I put her hardness on and use the string to tie around my waist instead, which means she stayed on my laps as I drove but she has limited space to move. She's all fine sitting on my laps, in fact she managed to take a nap too. Maybe it's not the perfect plan, but it worked for her. Hmmm the only problem is I have to drive very slowly :aimeeyork |
I have heard Ginger, Benadryl, dramamine, and a few other things work...of course, it would be good to talk this over w/ your vet to get proper dosage and advice. :) |
there is a drug called cerenia for motion sickness the vets carry it but i would try the other things first that have been mentioned but sadly they never worked for my dex and he is home bound lolll |
Never had any problems with Alfie, but Rosie was car sick from day one. Short and longer journeys. I followed somebody elses advice on here and put her as high up as I could [ they ride on the back seat on proper safty seat belt attatchments], by putting a large dog tick dog cushion bed on the seat. I also got the DAP pheramone in a spray and put some on the bed. They've been out the last 2 Sundays and no sickness.:thumbup: Though she is now almost 9 months and may have simply grown out of it. She lies very quietly in the car, just aswell as Alfie is a whinger. |
