Neutering and agression in other males
 
Hi, I am a new member, I have a 5 yr old Rottie spayed female and a 4 yr old Neutered Husky mix male, I have recently rescued a 5mth old male Yorkie, I have had 3 Yorkies before this and so have experience with the breed. My issue is that the 100 lb neutered male mix is not accepting the new pup. He ss lifting his lip, showing teeth and occasionaly snapping. I am afraid for the pup although we never leave them alone. The Rottie girl is accepting the pup but letting him know his boundaries (gently, with low grumbling). If I get the pup neutered will that help the problem. I am wondering if it is a territorial thing over the female. The male mix was a pound rescue at 10 weeks and was neutered at that age but has shown territorial issues before. Thanks for your help.

I think you answered your own question, that this is probably a territorial issue rather than having anything to do with neutering. A five month old puppy isn't sexually mature yet so he wouldn't trigger that reaction in your Husky.

I am so glad you are not leaving them alone together. Even the sweetest 100 pound dog can seriously injure or kill a toy dog accidentally. I've heard horrible stories about small dogs losing an eye or being killed by a much larger dog, Quite often, it's the little dog who provoked the attack, too, by defending a treat or his food. Yorkie's think they are big dogs in little packages.

Thanks so much for the insight, but what can I do to make these 2 boys friends. The big fellow will occasionaly be wagging his tail and lifting his lip at the same time. I don't know which end to believe but I'm betting on the one with teeth for now. The big guy will also attempt play on occasion, but not for long. This puppy seems to think the thing to do is jump on the big dogs faces to lick them, or to bite at their hind legs. I have to wonder if he was taken from his mom too soon and is not properly dog socialized.
