Potty training I am training my 4 month old pup on a potty pad. She was doing very well. Now she goes on any type of throw rug, puppy blanket or kitchen floor (not carpet), I could use any suggestions on potty training. Jeanne |
have you tried to train her to go outside? |
She is still pretty young being only 4 months so smile as you tell youself, "patience, patience, and even more patience". Crate training is a great way in aid of potty training and not allowing your pup to have full run of your home. I personally like the potty pads, it works for Schatzie. Id maybe remove all those tempting rugs and such as Ive heard other members comment on how much their little Yorkies love to pee on them. Atleast until your pup has the potty training pretty much under control. I have seen with Schatzie that she pee's quite often so when I first started with her Id bring her to the pad many many times and have handy treats with me when she did her business on her potty pad. Positive reinforcement is the key with these little one's. I still make it a really big deal with Schatzie and talk in a really high pitched baby voice when she goes on her pad. I think "reinstating" the training never goes out of style. I hope this helps a little and good luck with your pup. ;) |
I think potty pads are wonderful. I live in an apartment and don't want to take her outside at night alone. Also, when I leave her a lone I know she won't pee anywhere, because their bladders are so small. My suggestion would to get a plastic bin that is big enough so she can't jump out, put a pad in there, and about every 20 to 30 min. put her in it. Don't take her out until she goes even if she is barking. She will soon realize that she is supposed to pee in there. I got Tinker at 4 mos too and this worked like a dream. I had her potty trained in a matter of 2 days. I mean I didn't completely trust her yet, but she went on the pad from then on. Like Schatzie said above, treats are very important as well. Yorkies are very smart and learn quickly so if you stick with it you should have no problem. Good luck!!!! |
