WORRIED...will this be okay!?!?! DH was trying to get a bully stick away from Sadie because the end of it was small enough to fit in her mouth and we always try to take them away if they get too short. I don't know how big/small it actually was because he is the KING of exaggeration, but he says he got it away from her and she lunged for it and swallowed it whole... i'm super worried because what if it gets stuck in digestion and kills her!? am i over reacting and what should we do? Will she be fine if she's acting normal? she didn't choke on it, and seems to have just eaten it he says. should i take her to a vet or let her digest and make sure she's still pooping before i worry?? Thanks, Rachel |
I think I would call the vet and at least ask the question. They may want to see her or just tell you to keep an eye on her. Better safe than sorry. Hope all goes well. |
Yikes!! I would be worried too. I wish I could be of help but I'm not. Wish I knew what to do. There was a thread about how to induce vomiting. Do you think that would help? |
well i called the vet and he said to just watch for signs of vomiting or gagging. otherwise if she acts fine and has normal bowel movements don't worry about it. it was like only 1.5-2 inches long and very thinly chewed up.... just wish DH would be more careful. |
I'm glad you called. It sounds like the vet isn't "too" worried or he would have seen her immediately. You did the right thing:thumbup: |
I love seeing posts from responsible pet owners! :D Hope your baby is ok! |
Maggie May swallowed a piece one night and started to gag from it and it wound up going down. It was earlier in the evening so we were able to keep an eye on her. And wouldn't you know it, she wanted another stick! Needless to say that was it for bullies that night! She just, this past Friday night, threw up a piece that she tried to swallow. I had fallen asleep on the sofa and was woken up by her gagging on my lap. That was scary. We take them away from her (them) when they get to a certain point but she chews them down so quickly that thru the evening, she make whittle one down before we realize it. Just keep an eye on Sadie. Thankfully, they are 100% digestible. |
this is the reason why will only buy the 12 inch ones, this way when they get to about 3 or 4 inches, i throw them away. |
I have to ask a dumb question: What is a bully stick?????? |

they are dried out parts of a bull penis. there i said it... they are wonderful for yorkies to chew on because while tough enough to chew, they aren't as hard as say bones and rawhide and are a lot more digestible (THANK GOD) and i get mine from AMD on here www.westbrookdog.com |

I don't think they are sticky, but Bonnie has to get on her blanket if she wants to chew one on the couch. After all, who wants a big, slobbery "bully" laying on their couch. LOL |
