Hair in Ears
 
How do you guys deal with hair in the ears? I know we are supposed to pluck it or pull out very small amounts at a time with our fingers, but one of my dogs is extremely squirmy and I am afraid to hurt him. He has a lot of hair in his ears and none of my others do. His ears are starting to smell bad so I know that I have to get the hair out. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or should I just take him to the groomer?

Beth you can order products to help with the pulling of ear hair it is usually a powder so you can get a better grip... This hair must come out other wise you are looking a yeast infection in the ears as moisture can't get out.... Bad smell in the ears can also indicate ear mites. If you don't feel comfortable doing this let the groomer or vet do it for you. The sooner the better if there is a ordor coming from his ears. Hope this helps.... :p

If you go to a groomer, they will usually do a nail trim and ear plucking. I groom Chewy myself, but those two things I cannot stand. The whole thing will be about 10-15 mins and you can make regular appts to do it and the cost should be no more that $15.

Pet Smart in my neighborhood does the ears and a nail trim for $12.

Best 12 bucks I ever spent! :thumbup:

I can't even get near Dublin's toes with clippers, and I don't even want to think about trying to pluck ear hair!

When I take Mollie in to have her nails trimmed I always have them check her ears and if they need to they get the hair out. It's $4 more.

Same her. I take Mollie to Petsmart and have them both done for $12.

Mollie is the same she turns into a devil dog if I came near her with nail clippers I can't imagine getting hair out of her ears.

Thank you all. I am thinking that he might have mites which I have just treated him for. I will definetly take him to get this taken care of.

oh, no! when I got Rebel, the next day he has an odor in his ears. turned out to be a yeast infection. our vet pulls the hairs for $5. ended up costing me $35 for check and meds. I like the $5 preventative a lot better! :thumbup:
