Vicks Vaporub for small noses? I have such a difficult time at night with Rambo. His breathing is terrible, so I rub a little Vicks on the lid and lay it in the bed beside me. I also rub some under my nose. Then when he comes close to me for some hugs he breaths it in. He'll also start licking the lid of the Vicks and the first thing you know is his breathing is improved. Have you ever had trouble with your babies breathing and what did you do?:thumbup: |
First of all Vick's is probably toxic So i would not let him near it anymore. Second if your Yorkie is having trouble breathing i hope he's going to see a vet. |
This is a VERY BAD IDEA. If inhaled it could even cause pneumonia. If your dog has breathing problems you need to see a vet asap |
I would take him to a Vet. to find out what the problem is. A steamer would be better than Vicks. Ask the Vet. first. |
I've never heard of Vicks being used for that. I do use it on my boys when I have a female in Season or when I'm at a dog show where a female is in Season. But, I just take a bit and rub it on the chest......keeps them from getting the scent and going wako. I don't think that his inhaling it is detrimental, but I'd check with your vet about his licking it. And find out why your dog has breating issues....he could have a sinus condition. |
Please take Rambo to the vet to find out why he has trouble breathing. It could be allergies or even a heart condition. |

Pneumonia usually begins with symptoms similar to a cold, like a runny nose, fever and lethargy, and these symptoms would occur all the time, not just at night. Sometimes putting them in the bathroom just after someone has showered can benefit them, as the steam can help open their sinuses, and improve their breathing. Might be worth trying this with your pup. I did use Vicks on my dog, but not until I was sure he was dying, and the vet couldn't do anything else for him. He did have pneumonia and had so much mucous in his nose, he couldn't breathe. He wouldn't eat and was too weak to stand on his own. I only used an extremely small amount on my finger and put it across his nostrils. I believe it saved his life, I think he would have died if I hadn't done that. I used it a few times a day for maybe 2-3 days. The antibiotics began working and he started doing better, so I discontinued using Vicks because I thought it might be toxic. We used it on horses at the racetrack on the day of their race but never at any other time. |

With that said, I have NO idea about dogs. |
I have no idea. I would take him to the vets. has he just started having breathing problems? Heartworms are a common cause of respiratory problems in both dogs and cats, so if you haven't been giving heartworm preventive to your pets regularly we will probably run a heartworm test. it could also be a cold, allergies or lots of things, best to have him checked out by a vet. Respiratory I did google it to see what I could find. heres some thing that I found. Q:Can Vicks Vapor Rub be used on dogs who have similar symptoms humans get Answer Vick's is a mixture of Vaseline and menthol eucalyptus. Eucalyptus is toxic to dogs so no don't do it! |
If it is a cold, you can safely use Little Noses nose drops for him. It can also be safely used with cats as well. My vet told me this a few years back. |
