older yorkie urinating in house Hi, I am new to this, but I hope to find some help. I have an older yorkie (12yrs). She is peeing in my bedroom every morning, not sure when and what time, and is peeing in my living room and I can't use carpet, cause she always pees on it. Can any one give me some good advise? |
Welcome to YT. Your dog might have urinary incontinence, meaning she is not able to hold her urine. You should take her to the vet and they can prescribe her medication to help control it. Good Luck! |
If by chance she cann't help it, she could have an under active thyroid. My cattle dog was doing the same thing before the vet put her on meds. |
I had the same problem with my 12 yr old rescue Robin. I had new carpet put in my hall , living room and dining room. I use material pantie's and put a thick maxi pads on her pants. I get them at Wallmart. One pad can be cut into pieces. I get my pants for her from a friend of mine Diane Deward. Her website is Yorkie Fantasy: Small Dog Clothes Shop Her panties are amazing the way they fit and hold in the pad. She sells them for only $9.00 each. Any questions contact me or Diane. |
You might also want to take her to the vet to make sure she does not have a urinary tract infection. |
My EJ started doing that and it turned out he had diabetes and renal failure....so definitely take your baby to the vet!!:( I certainly hope that isn't the case with you. Take Care |
Older Yorkie Urinating Thanks everyone. I will get her to Vet ASAP for a check up |

older yorkie Thanks, I will let everyone know as soon as I can.:aimeeyork |
Aw, poor kiddo. I agree w/ others who've mentioned UTI, diabetes...there could be other things at play too, so a vet visit is a great idea. Please keep us posted. :) |
Senior dogs (over seven) should get a geriatric exam yearly which includes a complete blood chemistry, thyroid panel, etc. That will tell your vet a lot about her organ function and troubleshoot any underlying health issues. As everyone else has said, you need to take her to your vet to find out why she can't hold her urine anymore. |
