cortizone shots anyone ever have their babies get one.. lexi has been scratching and itching for days now.. i thought it might be the chicken i feed her, but she still itching since i changed that. the vet told me to take her in for a cortizone shot.. Just wondering if the vet will be able to tell what the heck is going on with my baby.. i cant see her living in misery anymore.. something has to be done.. we both dont get sleep. i feel terrible.. please help!! i have an appointment tomorrow with the vet for a shot for her... |
When did she start itching? What areas are the itchiest? Any redness or crusties anywhere? How long have you had her off of the chicken What is she eating now? Yes, we have used steroid injections here, but they aren't a good idea long term, so the problem really needs to be diagnosed. |
Personally, I would use over the counter remedies like Benedryl first. Definitely have her allergy tested and also rule out a problem with yeast. |
thank you for your reply. started really itching about a week and a half ago real bad. near her hind legs the most,, they were bleeding.. and by her face.but she always itched there. and also the back of her front legs too cuts on her back legs. off the chicken since sunday. now shes getting chopped meat with rice and stringbeans. i home cook and also in the mornings she was getting chicken soup for pet lovers soul.. so i stopped that.. im lost here.. i dont wanna waste money if the vet isnt gonna help me. ive been giving her beneryl by mounth with a syringe.. thats so hard to do, we fight everyday. omg im lost here |
also,. dont know if this has anything to do with it, but i got home from work last night and the had vomited.. liquid though.. what do you thinK? what should i do? |
Well, I would start with the vet. There are over 500 things that could make a dog itchy, so havng an exam is a good idea. It can take 60 days for a food allergy to resolve after stopping the food, so it is still way too early to tell. Antihistamines are a good starting place. If Benadryl doesn't work, you can use Claritin or Zyrtec if your vet approves it. Steroid injections will work if it is allergies, but they are not healthy and there ay be better options. If it is an environmental allergy, Atopica may be a good choice. However, it may not be allergies at all. Mites, fleas, thyroid problems, yeast, infection, etc. |
oh no!! now im scared for her to get that shot... i even said to the doctor, is it gonna harm her? she said no... it better not harm her.. |
