Bully sticks Can anyone tell my about bully sticks: What they really are? How healthy are they for yorkies? Is it really good for their teeth? Does it give them stinky gas? Any serious conditions it can cause? Thanks in Advance. |
Well... bully sticks are a dehydrated bull's penis, lol. For real. I was disgusted by it at first too but I've found a store near me that sells non-smelly ones. YT member AMD are good too. They've caused no gas or problems for Jackson and they are 100% digestible unlike rawhides, nylabones, etc. It is very good for their teeth! They're the only bones Jackson really likes. |

I have 4 yorkies (17 lbs, 9.5 lbs, 6 lbs and 3 lbs). I buy my bully sticks in batches of 100 from Westbrook dogs. They are awesome about shipping and customer service. My dogs ADORE their bully sticks and have never had any problems with them other than jealousy because even though they each get the exact same size stick - the other guys looks a little better. LOL After about 10 minutes of stealing each other's sticks they settle down and chew happily. I've never encountered any gas or other issues at all with them. The ones from Westbrook have a very slight odor, but nothing that is really bothersome. Michele :-) |
We just tried the bully sticks from Westbrook for the first time this week, after hearing so much about them on YT!!!! Sophie went crazy for it!!! She absolutely LOVES it!!! |
Mine don't like the bully sticks but LOVE the Merrick Flossies. I buy them in a 50 ct box from Pet Mountain. The only thing you have to watch out for with either of them is when they get down to the last couple of inches - I'd take it away because they could get lodged in their throat. NOT that they will for sure (because Max has eaten the whole thing before) but just to be cautious. |
We first tried Bully sticks from Costco which were awful smelling and rather large for yorkies....then I was reffered to Westbrookdog.com by another YT member and I ordered from her and in my opinion there is no noticable odor. All our dogs LOVE them and one of the cats... |
Helpful post I've been thinking of trying bully sticks for Remy, just have not gotten around to it One question to add to the discussion - are they messy? do they get sticky and nasty when the pup is chewing them? IE - will they make a mess of furniture, carpets, etc? We live in a condo. On the occasion that Remy has had a raw meat bone, it only occurs at my parents or at the office where he can be outside. That type of thing is entirely too messy indoors! |
No mess with ours just happy chewing LOL |
Bully sticks do not create any mess... You do want to make sure to throw them out when they get around 2-3 inches because of choking hazards. Couver loves bully sticks, they are really the only thing I have found that he enjoys:D |
I never thought I would give my dog such a thing! But then all the other pups on YorkieTalk were raving about them, and I couldn't leave Daisy out. We placed an order for some Westbrook Bully Sticks and tried them out--(not me, I'm vegan, just Daisy) She loves them! They don't stink, in fact I really can't smell them at all! They are long lasting. They are not messy. And I will just get over the fact they are made from a a "bull winky" because you can't tell by looking at them, and that is probably what is in your mystery meats, such as bologna and hot dogs anyway!!! :D |
I just received 2 free samples (you can get sample from contacting at http://westbrookdog.com/ and asking nicely for a free sample (include your address in the initial email and you get it faster) today and she WENT NUTS. My little one doesnt much play with toys or anything but she surely played with this bully stick for a few minutes before settling down and chewing away at it! Now I went to go see to purchase more and it says they're sold out of the 5" and 7" sticks. Anyone know how often they get new shipments when out of stock?? |
I just very kindly asked for a free sample. You know, I'm not sure I can touch them knowing what they are. :p |
Wow, ladies thanks for all the good information |
