Experience with new pup and Post-op dog? Toby is 8 months old and has Legg Perthes, and will need an op on his hip in the next few weeks. I was due to get another pup (10 weeks) in 2 weeks time. Toby just loves other dogs and this is why I wanted company for him. He always feels very sorry for himself when he is sore or sick, and I was thinking the new pup might take his mind of the operation. On the other hand, maybe the new pup might annoy him? What do you think is better for Toby? If I dont get this pup, I dont know how long I will have to wait..... |
Sorry to hear that Toby needs surgery, I wish him a quick recovery:love: Maybe you could get the pup, and if Toby seems bothered or upset by the new addition, you could keep the puppy in another room until he's feeling better? He'll have to be confined for his healing anyway, right? Get a couple of ex-pens to keep both the kiddos in so that they can see each other, but won't be able to play (until Toby is healed up) Good luck! |
I agree, just make sure that Toby won't be able to jump around after his procedure. You can let them meet and greet for a few moments each day to get used to each other and once Toby is all better, they will be best of buds! He'll be ready to run around once he gets the okay so a pup would probably really pick up his spirits. :) Best of luck with his surgery. |
