Please help!! Questions on neutering So, i have a little yorkie puppy, he is four months now and only 2.1 pounds. I know right now he is too young to get fixed but i am doing my research waaaaaaaaaay ahead of time. Can any male yorkie owners tell me about your experiances with neuturing your little fur baby? Did his personality change at all? did he get fat? how old was he when you got it done? do you have any pictures i could see of your little one? .. i know its a lot of questions but i would really appreciate all the information you could give me. PS.. i am not planning on breeding him are anything i am just concerned about his health and wellbeing and would like to do the best thing for my little man. I have read some horror stories, and i have also read the health risks of nueturing.. please help! |
Mine did not change at all from the neutering. He did gain some weight but he was still growing. He is not fat and is preportioned right for his size |
Hot Rod's personality didn't change. He was neutered at 6 1/2 mos. He didn't gain any weight, well he was just under 3 lbs at his neuter, he's now 4.7 lbs at a little over 2 years old. He had 14 teeth removed at the same time. :eek: He was out of it for the most part for about 3 days after but was back to his ol' self. Good luck with your little one. He should do fine. :) |
Buster's personality did not change, he did not get fat. He is just under 4 pounds. He will be two years old December 1. I had him neutered when he was 6.5 months. He is still not fat, he has gone through some personality changes but it is because we brought Maggie into the family last year but before that, he was his same, sweet self. And his personality still hasn't changed that much. |
Jackson did not change, he still had his puppy spunk. He got neutered at 6 1/2 months old and weighed a little over 11lbs at the time. He's now 12.5lbs at 1 year old. He was really only recovering the day of surgery and the day after. The third day, he was wanting to run around but I had to keep him quiet for a bit. By the fourth day, it was impossible so I just let him be himself and just watched out for jumping, etc. He never marks indoors, he hardly humps anymore, etc... just some of the benefits of neutering. I wouldn't own a male dog unaltered. |
Thank you all for your post! I really appreciate it, it seems that what everyone is saying is pretty universal. So that makes me really happy! :) i really love my puppy just the way he is and i dont want him to change.. but im beginning to feel really confident. :D thanks to all of you! |

His disposition changed, but only for the better. He is more loving and calm. I was told by my vet that yorkies mature very slowly. So, I would probably wait until he is 8 or 9 months old so he can tolerate the anesthesia a little better. |

Another reason I waited until my male was 8 months is because he needed to have a couple of baby teeth pulled and the vet didn't want to put him under anesthesia twice. Sometimes all of their teeth don't fall out, which makes it hard for their permanent teeth to come in without overcrowding. |
