Automatic dog food shipping and what do you get? Does anyone out there order their dog food online and have it direct shipped automatically each month? If so who do you use and what dog food do you guys suggest? I have been using Canidae, but lately my dogs are not acting right. Vomiting and itching and I think it is the food. I have been using Petdirect.com but they made me mad so I want to switch companies. What 6star food do you recommend that you yorkies eat (small kibble)? I would like 6 star as it is grain free and I think that will help my dogs itchy skin. Just trying things out. Open to any suggestions as well.;) |

Thanks for the suggestion. I am looking for a grain free and filler free dog food. I am glad your babies enjoy their food. Mine enjoy Canidae but I think it is not very good anymore. They changed the recipe and I think that is the problem. Here is the review from Dog Analysis in case you are interested. I used to use Canidae with my 3 yorkies but they changed the recipe and my girls will not eat the new version. I order Life's Abundance on line. My 3 yorkies consume l small bag per month. They ship a 3 month supply (3 bags) for one shipping charge of $7 something. If I had l bag shipped it would be $7 something for the l bag. So basically I am getting 2 shipped free. They always notify us when it is about time for shipping. They are a toll free number away anytime you need to order something else or delay shipment. My girls are doing beautifully on Life's Abundance and I totally endorse it for anyone wanting a small kibble. |

(1) Orijen (grain free) would be a good one to be shipped or Acana. They sell small .88 lb bags so you could try samples before getting the bigger bags. Both are grain free. (2) Right now Max is eating Natures Variety Prairie Line. I have heard that the Instinct Grain Free line is very good. (3) I am getting ready to try Life's Abundance because I got a puppy from Breny and (after he is settled in out home) I need to slowly transition him to foods I currently feed. May end up loving LA and stick with it. Who knows. I am with others in that the dog food review sites are just one person's opinion. It is easy to find out on here what is "good" in your dogs food but even then others still love foods like Royal Canin for their dogs. In the end it is all about what works best for your dog. My number one priority is nice firm poops. I know that sounds silly but I got tired of cleaning my pups but from runny soft stools that he gets on some foods. |
FYI...PS- I do not sell nor have I fed Life's Abundance yet but... The Dog Food Analysis site has not updated it's review of LA since 2007. The ingredients listed on the DFA site and those on the LA site are now different. Merrick offers a grain free food. My dogs love thier turducken food (5 star food) and most of their canned foods. I cant use a grain free food because my dogs dont tolerate them well. I ususally order right off thier site and you can set up shipping on there. They also offer 1.99 sample bags so you can try it out before you buy a big bag. Good luck with your search!! |
Jackson is picky and he absolutely loves Nature's Variety Instinct. Turkey & Duck flavor is his favorite. K9Quisine.com often offers specials on it to have it shipped. I got a free 4.4lb once and only had to pay $5 for shipping (a 4.4lb is normally over $17 around here!) It's a GREAT food, great meat content and grain-free which is what I like! |

We love NV Instinct, too! Our favorite is the rabbit. I usually order from k9cuisine.com - they have free shipping on orders over $50. |

I feed a rotation diet, consisting of the premium grain-free formulas. (6 star and select 5 star). Finding the 'best' food is a trial and error process, so you have to find which one is the best for your baby. Good luck! |
Thanks for all the input. I do think I want to try grain free for a while and see how it works. I actually LOVE Merricks food, but my dogs pick out the veggies and leave a big mess on the floor for me to clean up:eek: So I am now searching for small kibble like Merrick, with NO veggie pieces in the food, and grain free to start off with. I am feeding some samples of Artemis Maximal mixed with my Canidae. They are getting a little bit of runny poops now, but I am thinking it is just because of the change. Another reason I am looking to change is because their poops are large. I read that if they were actually digesting most of the food then poops wouldn't be so large or so many. Is that true? |
I use to feed mine Canidae as well. But then they switched their formula and now it's crap. Canidae does contain ethoxyquin.:thumbdown I noticed a big difference once I took them off of this food. I switched mine to Life's Abundance and they do great on it and they love it!! Plus the kibble is small and the price isn't bad. I also tried them on Blue Buffalo and they loved it but they started getting overweight on it so I switched. I do want to mention you might want to be careful with the grain free foods. They usually have a much higher protein which isn't very good for this breed due to their small livers and liver shunt being so prominent in the breed. |
