Is hypoglycymia just for puppies? Cecilia is almost 1 year old and the last 2 days she has been really lethargic and sleeping alot. What are the signs of hypoglycemia? Does it happen to dogs this old? She has never acted this tired before. Other people have even asked what's wrong with her because she is not her playful little self. I gave her a little maple syrup just in case she needed sugar and I haven't noticed any big change. Any advice? |
I'm unsure if hypoglycemia can affect a dog that age....I guess the obvious questions would be....what does she weigh???? and did she have any sugar problems when she was younger????? IS she eating OK????....Maybe going into 'heat' cycle???? Is she pooping normally???? I would have to give the vet a call. Especially if other people are noticing the difference. Yorkie Moms notice EVERYTHING.......but if others notice maybe it's worth checking into!! Good luck.....hope she feels better real soon.......keep everybody posted! (puppy kisses from Lil Bit and Apple.....and wet slobber love from the old greyhound who got 7 MORE TEETH pulled today...) |
hypoglycemia can happen in a dog any age....... with little dogs, they have trouble managing their blood sugar, ANY LITTLE DOG CAN HAVE IT, and also it can happen at any time.... i havent given toby ANY nutrical since we got him at 12 weeks old (he is now 5 months)..... and out of the clear blue last week he got "sick" .... he was lethargic, his gums were white, he wouldnt eat, no energy...... and this was the only time he has ever crashed, good thing i cought nutrical when i got him (just in case).... nutrical is a GREAT thing to have on hand even if there has been no history of hypoglycemia..... (and let me also point out that is doesnt have to be a small dog to have this....... toby weighed in at 8lbs, so he is a big guy and he still had this incident....) |
Thanks for the input. Cecilia seems much better today. She has never had issues before but perhaps her blood sugar was low. Maybe she was just having a tired couple of days. I know what that's like. ;) Wow Toby has gotten to be a big boy. I remember when you got him. It sure goes by fast. |
