Innova problems - diarrhea I switched my pups to Innova puppy several weeks ago and they have been doing great. We are down to about the last 2 cups of the bag. I took them to the vet for their boosters and two days later Nick, 10 months, got diarrhea. I called the vet and they said it probably wasn't related to the shots. I took him off kibble and gave him pumpkin and chicken baby food and his poop returned to normal. When I reintroduced kibble, he got diarrhea again. Could this be related to his food? Has anyone else had this problem with Innova? Also, can anyone recommend a similar quality food? They both seem to like Canidae but it has that fish preservative stuff - is this a big enough issue not to feed this brand of food? Any advise is welcome. Thanks. |
Sounds like the food to me. My dogs didnt tolerate Innova very well either. We are currently using Merricks. Honestly, I wouldnt willinly feed my pets anything that had the "fish stuff" in it and personally I would stay away from any pet food product made by Diamond foods for that reason. There are several different premuim brands out there. There is a link at the top of this section with emails to many of them, some of them offer free samples. Good luck.. I know how hard finding the right food is!! :) |
I got some samples of Innova adult - Nick is 10 months and they are both ALS formulas. I wonder if the puppy is too rich for him? I tried Merrick's - wouldn't even taste it. I have samples of Wellness and Natural Balance that I guess I'm going to try. Why is finding a dog food so hard?!?! |
Max's system did not tolerate Innova well either. He had really soft runny stool. He is on Nature's Variety Lamb & Oatmeal and is doing great. He also does well on Acana Grasslands and Acana Prairie. |
Tatum ate Innova for probably two years and did great. Then last Summer they changed the formula. I didn't know that so when I started her on a new bag I bought she started with the diarrhea. Took her to the vet, got meds and Science Diet I/D. She got better. Went back on the Innova... same thing happened. Switched back to I/D again, took meds, got better. After trying it the third time, I realized it had to be the food but I kept telling myself up until then that it couldn't be because she had eaten it for so long before with no problems. That's when I put out a plea for help on YT and someone told me about the formula change. Turns out her tummy just didn't like the new formula. She now eats Wellness Core and is doing great with it. |
