Night itches? I have noticed Lolli itching really hard but I can't tell where she's itching. She puts her face down between her legs as though she might be licking her bum area, but then her leg is moving along her ear so it could be that she's itching her ear. Or maybe both? Either way, I checked her ears and I don't even see a speck of dirt of mites. I don't know if mites are visible or not? And I haven't checked thoroughly for fleas or anything but I do see a good bit of her skin on a normal basis just haven't looked in the rump area but I will do that first in the morning to check for fleas since that's where she may be itching. It just seems odd though that she doesn't scratch herself all day long but this is the 2nd night that I'm getting ready for bed and then she starts itching like crazy for a few minutes and then is fine and goes to bed? |
Eva does this too. Right when we put her on our bed and we are getting ready. I think it is a little nervous habit, like some separation anxiety. When we first got her she scratched when we took her out to potty. She would look over her shoulder at us all nervous and worried then start scratching. It took a few days and lots of treats and she seemed more at ease and stopped doing it. But she still does it just before having to go in her crate. Can't wait until she is old enough to sleep freely on our bed. |
Well that could be the case since we've only had her for about 4 days. But she does sleep in a little doggie bed next to mine so I'm not sure what she'd be nervous about. I did check by her ears for fleas or anything and her skin is just fine. I checked in her ears and can't see a thing that would cause itch and there's no red or bumpy skin in or around her ears. I checked on top of her rump and her belly and don't see any fleas or 'flea dirt' but I haven't gotten a chance to check her actual bum area. I do have to say, she had a litter of puppies before I adopted her and the last one was weened a week ago (3 days before we adopted her). So shes still a little 'swollen' on her 'girly parts' if you get what I mean :) I don't think the milk has gone out yet in the back 2 of her 'girly parts' nearest her rump. Could this be a cause of itching?? |
Oh the poor little thing, she is dealing with the loss of her litter too I bet. And being in a new place. Then night time comes and she knows it is dark quiet and lonely if she is awake and you are sleeping. If she is on a flea and mite med then I doubt it is that. Could be the physical changes her body is going through I guess. I know nothing of what comes after a mother weans her pups, maybe one of the breeders here can give more light to that thought. I would give it some time, be really patient and give her tonnes of love. She is precious. |
Well last night instead of itching, she vomitted 2 times. But she ate it, so I didn't have a chance to see if maybe it was something she ate that was bad. But I think it's just because we are trying to transition her from one food to another since her previous owner was feeding her puppy food and she is 7 years old. She hasn't done it since.. but she doesn't seem lethargic or anything that might make me believe she is sick somehow. Shes barking and wagging her tail normal as ever.. Uuugh I don't get it. Can someone let me know that knows about yorkie breeding if itching herself fiercely is normal? It seems like that's what she itches, is her girly parts. |
My dog is almost two, and she always does this. Not so much at night when we go to bed, but in the morning she seems to scratch like CRAAAZY until she gets up out of bed...and then not so much the rest of the day. My Ella does however have seasonal alergies, which seem to get better in fall and winter. She scratches the most in the summer months. Not sure how being in bed impacts this...but sometimes I think it just gives her more time to simply concentrate on her itches lol Hope this helps. It is unfortunate, but yorkies do seem very prone to allergies :( |
