Impetigo- Can i use hydrogen peroxide? My puppy just got diagnosed with Impetigo (after tons of visits and money wasted) i took her to a different doctor and he told me its like puppy acne. He put her on anti biotics but it came back, so now he gave me another 7 day refill to keep her on them. I have read however that hydrogen peroxide can help clear it up. She is 6 months old, so i wanted to know if thats ok? or how do i use it? how much of it? do i dab a cotton ball and put it on the spot? anyone have any remedies for this? thanks for ur hlep!!! |
From what I've read, you just dab the peroxide on the spots. Impetigo is caused by the Staphylococcal bacteria, and peroxide kills it; Impetigo can be very persistent. |
Impetigo Thank you for your advice....I hope after this next round of anti biotics, she will be better and i will try to do the peroxide. |
I hope so too, glad you found out what it was, that's half the battle! |
By the way, you might want to start him on a little yogurt if you are doing antibiotics. Antibiotics kill all bacteria, good and bad, and yogurt introduces the "good" bacteria back into the intestines. You can find some plain yogurt that is not sweetened and has real culture in it. Or even better, you can try adding a probiotic to the diet, if he'll be on antibiotics for a while. They have the same thing as yogurt but in a larger form. Here's some more information about probiotics and they might even be able to help with skin problems. Probiotics, What Are They? Do our dogs NEED Them? |
Is it staph. intermedius and are they treating it w/ Simplicef? If not, I'd move to Simplicef since it returned...and give for longer than 7 days...this sounds like a resistant bacteria which is kinda scary. |
