Car-sick Charlie I just got Charlie 2 weeks ago today with the intensions of him coming in the car with me where ever I go... But I think Charlie has other intensions - he's been throwing up quite frequently. There is no rhyme or reason to his up-chuck... Sometimes its shortly after he eats. Sometimes its been hours since his last meal. Sometimes it's on very short car trips and twice he went on two 1.5 hour trips and didn't throw up at all. Any suggestions on how to keep his kibble down. My vet suggested medicine but I'm not sure I want to go down that route. Charlie is 1 year and 7 months BTW! |
Poor Charlie. My Meika used to get sick up to 3 times in an hour drive which I had to make weekly. It stopped when I let her ride on my lap, and would lift her up periodically to look out (and yes I know that is so unsafe). I've heard of some success with giving them some form of ginger (ginger ale, ginger snaps, or ginger tabs from health food store). Others have found success by elevating the dog so he can see out by using a dog car seat. I also don't agree with medicating them, it just makes them sleepy. Most important is to limit their food before a drive, and have lots of towels and wipies available. |
Thanks Maui! I will try some of the ginger! |
Can Charlie see out the windows? My kidz do better when they are in a booster seat or are standing so they can see. |
No he doesnt look out the window - he's usually curled up on my lap! The funny thing is that he usually doesn't throw up until I stop the car (at a red light). |
