petco I think this is the right place since this is about health but has anyone taken their pet to petco for vaccinations how is it? I will take him to the vet if petco is no good but im just asking because the vet was suppose to be free for 3 months but then the prices started coming in which i dont mind but i dont want to be ripped off either |
I took my cat to Petsmart in an emergency and wasn't happy. I'm assuming Petco would be similar, and I don't care to find out. If you do go to Petco, I would read the vaccinations post in the YT Library, and just beware that they may try to sell you on vaccines and stuff you don't want for your Yorkie. Even if a private vet may appear more expensive, they won't be in the long run. It can be beneficial to your pet to have an ongoing relationship with the same vet, a compassionate, caring one as opposed to a large, profit-motivated company. It appeared to me that the vets at the chain stores are punching a clock, just putting their time in till payday, following procedures set by non pet/medical corporate executives who could care less about the well being of your pet, but whose main concern is their bottom line, or how can they make a profit by offering vet services at their retail pet supply stores. They are offering vaccines for dental disease, giardia and some other new ones. Don't get them. They are too new on the market and long term effects are not known. Personally I have heard reports of a friend's Yorkies having a very bad reaction to the dental vaccine. Not worth the risk. |
I've personally never tried one of those clinics so I can't say whether it's a good or bad idea, but I know I'd personally prefer just going to a regular vet. For some reason, I just feel they're more trustworthy than a clinic at a pet store would be. |
When did Petco start giving shots? Also I thought you had to be a banfield member to get shots at Petsmart? |
I just took mine for shots a Petco. The shots are done by a licensed vet. and I am happy with them for the smaller ones like my Chloe who is barely 5lbs they split the injections into two trips and give you a coupon to bring back to get the rest of her shots. They take their time with them and it is quite a difference in fee schedule from my normal vet. |
I just called about the petco shots and they are $50 for dogs. I am taking Chachi and Jewels to their next clinic. My vet charges over a $100 for the annual vacs. |
