Another puppy food question..sorry I'll be getting a 6 week year old puppy in 3 weeks and I just began getting supplies and food. I've decided to go with Halo dry puppy food. My question is..When should I take my puppy off puppy food and how many times should I feed him daily? Thanks |
Sorry, not following this...did you say you will be getting a 6 week old puppy in 3 weeks? |
I should have been more clear :). I'll be getting the puppy when he turns 6 weeks, he's only 3 weeks now. |
Usually the pups stay with their mother until around 12 weeks. But, I got mine when she was 6 weeks, also. If you feed a puppy food that is an All Life Stages food then you can feed the same food into adulthood. I feed Innova puppy (an ALS food) to both of mine and they are 9 weeks and 10 months. They eat from the same bowl so it was imprtant for me to choose a high quality ALS formula. If you do get the pup at 6 weeks you def. want to free feed for several months. The pup will be so small it will be at high risk for hypoglycemia or low blood sugar. Also, if you crate at night or when you're not home, make sure food and water are available 24 hours a day. You might want to moisten it, too, to encourage your pup to eat. And, don't forget to transition to the new food very slowly. The breeder should give you a sample of what she is feeding him. Good luck! |
Can i moisten it with regular milk or just stick to water? Thanks for the response |
I used water. It makes a gravy. They LOVE it. |
Hi Just wanted to say all the best with your new baby when they are home, I had Teddy at 7 weeks, although I know some Yorkie babies stay with thier mum until they are 10-12 weeks old or more. |
Thank you rachel and thanks diana :D |
