Weight, Raw & Flossies??? About a month ago, I was so worried about Apple, because she would hardly eat any kibble, and weighed 4 lb. 6 oz...She seemed so thin, so I finally tried raw, and she loved it!!! However, she seems to be gaining too much weight, and I can't figure out if it's the raw (she only gets two medallions a day) or if it might be the Merrick's Flossies....It takes her a long time to finish the flossies (a few weeks), but I wonder if they are too fattening...Apple is almost one year old (oct.31st)...I thought raw was supposed to help keep pups at a good weight...I don't give her any treats, only her Merrick flossie, which she has, all the time....I guess you could say I free feed flossies...I wouldn't be so off the chain w/this, but she has just been diagnosed w/grade 1 LP in both knees, so weight is now a major big issue...Thanks for any input... |

Hmmm... maybe she's just gaining needed weight? You say she seemed so skinny when she was barely eating, so maybe since she's finally eating properly, she's filling out properly? I'm not entirely sure since I don't feed raw. I know certain grain-free foods I've heard tend to be weight gaining foods, like Taste of the Wild. I don't think Flossies are all that fattening especially if she takes so long to chew through one. Maybe someone else with a smaller Yorkie can help you out, I'm so used to my big boy being able to eat 2-3 bully sticks a week, NV kibble, all kinds of doggie treats, and he's a skinny thing, LOL. I'm sorry to hear about Apple's grade 1 LP, luckily it's only grade 1. Did the vet say anything about surgery? |

Actually, the vet recommended I not do surgery...She said there may be a possiblity of needing surgery later on, if a tendon/ligament (?) stretched to much...She said some dogs live there whole life w/mild LP and do fine...I'm feeling real positive about it....However, Apple is having her spay and teeth removal on the 29th, so I'm going to ask for lots and lots and lots of prayers for a speedy recovery and not much pain :( |

How does her body and rib area feel - does she feel overweight there? Marcel is 3 lbs and he eats 2 medallions a day, so what you're feeding doesn't seem excessive...he usually also gets a chew of some sort...plus potty treats. |

Hopefully, the vet told you to give Cosequin RS to help prevent further deterioration? Most of us get ours at Entirely Pets. :) |

Btw, what was the "episode" and does she have it in only 1 knee? Sometimes LP can be caused by an injury too... |

Both Chelsea & Murphy had a big growth spurt when they were 10 or 11 months old. It was completely unexpected. I had bought them quite a few clothes because I thought by 10 months they should pretty much be done growing, and the next thing I knew nothing fit. Maybe Apple is just finishing up her growing, too. |
