Dolly's Spay??? I took Dolly to the vet today to see if she was ready for her spay (the vet wanted to wait to see if she would loose her teeth or need any extracted). We decided to wait a few weeks but she gave me a quote for the surgery...$500. Well that seemed a bit pricey (esp. since that's with a 10% discount!). That price includes the spay, IV fluids, bloodwork, ECG, pain meds and 2 extractions. I am wondering if I should "shop" around for a better price or suck it up and go with this vet. I know I can get it cheaper at like the humane society but I want to make sure she is with a vet who knows what they are doing esp. with a little dog. Anyone know any more affordable but also reliable (and good with little Yorkies!) in the Chandler/Phoenix/Tempe area? |
Hey you :D! Our Humane Ass'n does very inexpensive spay/neuters - I think they also have a mobile unit. They also do microchip while they're under too, which is great. I don't know who their vets are, but maybe you can call and dig for more info so your comfortable? And ask about their anesthesia protocol...esp. for small doggies. |
Hi! I LOVE Dr. Bastek...just not her price! LOL Do you know if the Humane Society will do tooth extrations while they're under? What about the bloodwork? |
Ok I did some research and it looks like they do the bloodwork but I'll need to ask about the extractions. What questions do I need to ask? What kind of anethesia is preferred? |
I *love* Dr. Bastek too :)! She is so great. Here is a post about what to look for in anesthesia: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-protocol.html I don't know if the Humane does teeth...I mean, you'd think they would bc that seems so common...but I'm not sure. I don't know what pre-op blood they do either, but I'm sure they have options. Or, you could have bloodwork done w/ Dr. Bastek and the surgery at Humane if you're comfy w/ it. :) |
Thanks for the info! I will call today and ask all my questions! Oh! On the website it shows their prices and it shows TNT with surgery...do you know what that is? |

Maybe toe nail trim a lot of vets do that when they are under. |
I was thinking maybe tatoooooo...but I like the toe nail trim idea... |
I bet Patti has it - Toe Nail Trim - I never would have thought of that, but they often do that while pets are under, get them nice and short and cauterize the claw (not painful after) - that would explain why it's only $5 too. |
Ahh! That makes sense! Thank you! |
