If you go to the vet and they say there is no parasite, I would def. switch foods. 20 poops a day isn't normal. Also, if you were able to walk him a few times a day that might help. I read an article once that talked about how walking helps both human and dogs digestion, and if "nature calls" you'll have a dog pooping outside. When he sees the praise he gets maybe he'll do more and the situation will be alleviated. Good luck:thumbup: |
I'm sorry and I hope this doesn't sound harsh but what did you except from your 12 week old pup? To come home to you and be fully trained to go on a pad. If you have a new baby then you know how tough it is to care for a baby, a puppy is the same thing. 30 mins a day out of a crate is not even CLOSE to enough time! Even if he poops 20 times a day. If you only have 30 free mins during the day for a puppy you shouldn't have one then. I would say it may be the food that is causing him to poop so much. My dog pooped alot on RC and other cheaper foods. We're on pre made raw now and she only poops once a day now. SHe used to go about twice but my girl is 1 year old now. Perhaps there is some type of medication for the "soft stool" you could get. Do you have a kitchen with tile floor you could crate off for the pup so he can be out of the play pen more? Definitely try the bottled water. It could help the issue as well. |

hi i will be walking him when all his shots are done. we have another 2 week wait, and hopefully in the next few days his harness will arrive so i can take him in the garden. over night he only pooped 3 times, so thats loads better. and it was firmer! so made he is just settling in. He is paper trained perfectly in the play pen, just need to make sure he is going to go on the paper outside the crate. then he can come out at all times. I think peoples methods are very different. A lot of the uk crate training methods recommend that they remain in the crate and only come out for short periods. Thanks for your advice. |
I have moved him to my kitchen, out of his play pen. |
Hi I just want to say that the RC food caused my pup to have the runs. He is roughly the same age as yours. I was told by a dog nutrition guy at the pet smart to put him on it for dander.I added it gradually but I had to take him off of it. I also had gradually put my other two year old on the adult RC and and he got the runs as well. I went back totally to the Performatrin puppy and adult food I get at the Pet Valu store. Good luck anyway:) You have a lot on your plate with an eight month old baby and a puppy. You actually have two little babies to take care of. |
Hi Thanks. I will talk to my vet next week, but today is looking a lot better. I have moved him out of the play pen and into the kitchen. He can still see us and obviously we are in and out of the kitchen all the time. He has had one accident, but the poop was on the pad - woohoo. a nice firm one, lol. If he continues to toilet like that over the next few days he can start to roam a bit more of the house :D I dont take umbridge to anything anyone says, we all have our ways. And some are VERY different to somebody elses. |
I would get him off Royal Canine! Royal Canine gave my Archie the runs. He did well on Diamond Natural Puppy Food. Now he does well on Natures Recipe for toy dogs. Royal Canine is way over priced & has corn in it. |

I will go to the pet shop when I have my car! (hubby took it to work, doh) I will see what other varities we have in the UK. He is being fed the food the breeder fed him. But I wil check out other foods tomorrow and do a slow change over and see how that goes, but today his poop seems ok. |
I'm so glad to hear things are getting better! |

Hi, Thanks very much. No offence taken. Roll on when I can start walking him! lol. |
I wouldnt switch his food either |
Good to hear he's doing better. I really think it was stress, because moving can be hard on little ones. Does he have a door on his ex-pen where he can go in and out of it to use the pee pad? |
forgot to mention that you can add probiotic to help his stomach; you can get the children probiotic powder from whole food store or vitamin shop; good luck |
