Cat Food...?
 
Hello all! I have been living at home for a few months with my mom who has two cats. I read somewhere that cat food is high in protein and dogs should not eat it. Well, Baxter's poo-poo has been very runny for the past few months, and I could never figure out the sudden change. I catch him getting into the cat food sometimes, but I'm wondering if he is getting into it when I'm not watching or at home. Could the cat food be upsetting his stomach and causing his wet poo-poo??

..sorry if this is a DUH question, but I had to ask the professionals... you guys! ;)

Yep, definitely. I've heard cat food is a no no for doggies. So I'm sure it's upsetting his stomach.

Jackson LOVES cat food, too. My dad has two cats so whenever we visit, he tries to sneak some.

is the cat food always out; is it possible to only put it out to feed the cats then remove it so he wont get into it; also u can try confind him to another area when you aren't around and can't watch him; good luck

Cat food is very rich (i.e. tasty), high in protein and high in fat. All of which is designed for a cat's nutritional needs, but often will/can cause gastrointestinal distress in dogs including vomitting and diarrhea.

I've caught Snowflake (cat) eating Sophie's food, and vice-versa!!! I keep running them off, but boy when they can sneak some, they sure do!!! :eek:

Morgan loves to eat Skoshi's (the cat) food as well. I have to elevate the cats food on a rubbermaid container so morgan can't get it. problem solved. :)

Maybe put the cat food up on the washer or dryer (if they are inside) or even make some kind of a wood pedestal for the cat food.

I feed my cat on the desk (not ideal) it's better than having Oliver gobble it up - he LOVES cat food. It will definitely make them fat. Too much fat & protein for dogs... try to put it someplace your dog can't get to but the cat can? Good luck!
