Pedilite-is it safe and how much do I give HELP...Cooper has been throwing up most of the afternoon/evening. It all started with a large coins of carrots....I know he chewed them but did not agree with his tummy, he threw that up first now he is throwing up clear......in between the throw up episoids he is still playing/running around. I am worried that he may get dehydrated......but dont know if the pedilite is ok? and how much to give? |
Yes, it is okay. You could just start with a half tsp. or so at a time. How many times did he throw up though and has he stopped? Are his gums pink? |
he has thrown up like 6 times.....it was carrot colored but is now clear....white foamy. I know he has not gotten into any chemicals/yard because even with an 8 foot privacy fence he goes out on leash. We called the vet and he was the "on call vet" did not sound concerned at all, said to give him pepto-bismal.....and if it got worse I could call him back/bring him in the morning. Yes his gums still look pink and I am "making/tricking" him to drink water, he does not want it but will drink it....but then will throw it up a few minutes later |
Pediatlyte can replace water for now or you could give both. If he isn't holding it down though, his stomach may need to rest. It's really hard to tell with these things sometimes. It could be an upset stomach or it could be something a lot worse. Does he seem to be in any pain when you touch and push lightly on his abdomen? Unfortunately, if he keeps throwing up and can't hold water down, dehydration could happen quickly and you'd have an emergency. If he doesn't start to hold liquids down soon (and I can't tell you how soon it needs to happen :(), he will have to get fluids from the vet. |
Thanks Ellie May, the vet said he could get to the office at 9:00pm to see him, but did not have a way to do IV xray etc, and thinks it is just a bug....but not like him at all to throw up so much. He wants me to hold him and does not want to eat even a bite of treat....he will drink then just throws it back up. I agree with him probably wanting his tummy to rest. He does not act like he is in pain, but I was rubbing and rubbing his belly and it must have felt good because he just turned over and spread out like more more.....he has pooped tonight. |
