So, after a Neuter ...
 
Hi all, so tomorrow will be a week since Maxi got Neutered and I was wondering if this is normal. The stitches are not outside, the doc said that they are inside so they will dissolve by themselves. Well the incision that is visible started to scab, it’s all white and hard is that normal?

Also, I was told that he couldn’t go outside for walks for a week but what about water? I was hoping to give him a bath this weekend, but not sure if I should get him wet or just use wipes for now?

Jackson's scabbed up, too, and he didn't have to have stitches removed or anything. They
were the dissolvable kind. I want to say I gave Jackson a bath 7 days after his neuter.

is it red at all; what do you mean white; like pus?
if it's just regular skin color with scab; then that's fine; as long as he doesn't lick the area; you can use the colar for another week to prevent infection. mine had stiches inside, never saw them. but i took the colar a little early adn she started licking; and then it got infected. so the vet gave me an antibiotic cream to put on it.
you can wipe him down; but not that area; maybe it's best to avoid water for another week. good luck

My vet said not to bathe untill 2 weeks after the neuter

Hot Rod had dissolvable stitches so nothing had to be removed. If the site is red and angry looking than it is probably fine. We were told to not bathe him for 10 days after his procedure.

Momo's stiches were buried too. It did have a hard bumpy spot (can't remember the color) that eventually went away. If you're concerned, call your vet & have a vet tech look at it, it doesn't cost anything (mine doesn't anyway).;) I gave him a bath a week later.

Bailey's neuter was 8 days ago, the area is hard and crusty right now, but the coloring looks normal, I gave Bailey a bath already and didn't have a problem.

It is slightly red, but not really much. its like a hard and crusty scab that is white colored, but no puss at all. Its looks like when you would scrap your knee really bad and a scab would formed on top of the cut - well that scab is like hard and almost white-ish in color. does that make sense.

I just called the vet and they said to wait another week but didnt say anything about the scab :confused::confused: I hope its not infected.. how do you know that its infected?

after ava licked her wound it got really red and hot; and almost half of her belly was red; so when the vet saw it she said it's infected; but yours doesnt sound infected. just make sure he doesnt lick the site and don't get water on it. it will heal; it usally takes about 2 weeks. no worries.

Your description of the area sounds exactly like what my little boy had. Everything sounds normal and fine. I held out 2 weeks before I bathed him, per vet's instructions. The white-ish crusty stuff washed off.

Also, my little guy had a little blotchy redness from the incision to the base of his penis -- probably caused by running and jumping too soon after surgery.
