Vitamins - Does Anyone Give to their yorkies?? Hello Everyone - I am new to YT as of yesterday. I've had my yorkie (Sparky) for 6 days. He is almost 13 weeks and I am trying to start with good habits and nutrition but don't want to overdo. This is my first yorkie and any suggestions would be welcome. |
If you are feeding a commercial dog food there is no reason to give your dog vitamins, they have all the necessary vitamins a dog needs. Overdosing on vitamins is not healthy either. However, if you are home cooking vitamins are a necessity. Some people give other forms of supplementation, but in most cases they are unnecessary, and more for the mama than baby, but generally they will do no harm. For a new puppy, I would not recommend anything. I think you should be cautious with new foods and supplements for the first 6 months. Just want to welcome you to Yorkietalk, and congratulations on your new little boy, I love the name Sparky, is he a little firecracker? |
Yes, he is a firecracker! and oh so sweet! Thanks for the welcome and advice. I am feeding him Science Diet Puppy Small Bites. |
welcome! and I LOVE that name Sparky. So adorable. |
I do add glucosamine for joint and cartiladge strengthening, the actual dosage should be discussed with your vet. Vitamins are usually not necessary if you're giving a good quality food. |
Thanks and I will ask about the glucosamine. |
