Constant itching, nibbling paws, and scabs on top of ears Hello everyone. I know my yorkie has some sort of allegies, i am assuming it is food allergies. I just switched from wellness, lamb something because she was still itching after being on it for over a month. I noticed that the previous dog food i was feeding her also had lamb as its protein, and rice. I am now (day 3) feeding her Natural Balance sweet potato and fish because i think it may have something to do with LAMB or RICE. Does this sound pretty normal? |
Mine has allergies too. Unfortunetly I don't know to what. The vet gave him meds & said use them as needed. So far they are need everyday. How old is your pup? |
Only a small % of allergies are food related (like 10-15%). Most allergies are enviro/seasonal. How old is she? When did the symptoms start? Are the scabs on her ears from her itching the area, or are they just there? She may have mites. Have you checked for fleas too? Figuring out allergies takes a lot of time, but it can be done. You need a good vet, or a Vet Dermatologist (that's what I had to do) as allergies are complicated. Btw, if this is a food allergy (which I doubt) - it can take up to 3mths to see full results after a food switch. |

Ditto...how do the insides of her ears look? Dirty or do they smell? Sounds like ear mites to me. I think this because Max had them when we brought him home as a puppy :) |

I also recommend a Vet Dermatologist. Piccolo also had scabs in her ears and licked her paws constantly. (But, she was not itchy.) It took the Dog Derm to figure it out with a bunch of tests. Good luck and hope things get figured out quickly. |
