Exercising in Winter How do you exercise you yorkie in the winter? I usually walk Capone about 45 min a day and play inside with him to release his energy and give him exercise, It's been really rainy and getting cold lately. What should I do to exercise him and release his energy? Thanks for your help. |
Bundle him up and take him on a walk...Or just lay on your floor and throw his toys for him.. If you throw a toy will he bring it back to you? Thats one thing I do with peanut if I get home to late to walk him ( i dont like walking at night) I will lay on the carpet with him and throw his toy back and forth :D |
They love to chase laser lights as well. -pam & armani |
It's hard to play fetch because it quickly turns into tug or war, lol. He won't go outside in the cold. I have to force him out to use the bathroom, he hates it so I think walking would be out of the question. I guess walk time will just have to turn into extra play time. |
I have a really warm coat and Bandit will still go out in the winter time. He's more apt to go out for a walk than go out for a bathroom break in the back yard lol. This will be Nala's first winter so we got her the same jacket, but she's still all puppy and has more meat on her bones than Bandit so I'm hoping the cold won't be an issue. I was also considering getting the agility training course things:) |
Someone posted on here, last year, that they threw treats down the steps and had their furbaby run down to get them. I liked the idea and did this last year with Piccolo, in the cold weather. I threw little pieces of green beans and she absolutely loved running down the stairs to find these. (And would be panting by the time we finished this game. :)) |
That's a good idea!!! Maybe I'll try that when it rains. Both dogs hate going out in the rain (but Bandit has no problem playing in snow...haha!) |

Last winter I continued to take Alfie out unless it was raining but he's quite happy to play fetch. This will be Rosies first winter and she lighter in build than Alfie so we'll have to wait and see. I've brought them both thick warm coats so hopefully they'll wear those. |

Great idea! How old do they have to be to do the steps? Reesie is 12 weeks. |
I love the idea of throwing the beans for them to fetch. It's healthy and I'm sure fun. |
