congrats on your new puppy. she is really young to be home with you already. Most yorkie breeders will not allow their puppies to leave until 12 weeks old. you really need to keep an eye on her and make sure she is eating. what brand of food are you giving her now? wet food is fine right now because it should encourage her to eat but you want to get a quality dry food as well. Innova, wellness, and solid gold are all great foods to feed. She needs to eat 4 times a day right now. you can generally use what the bag says and split it 4 ways. at her age, if she wants to eat more i'd let her (just don't go overboard). You want to ensure she is eating because puppies that young and small can get low blood sugar. |
Congrats!! 7 weeks is really young to bring home, but since she is home, keep her on the wet food for now. It may take a bit to have him settled in, but make sure she is eating something. How big is she? Make sure to watch her closely...expecially at night. When I brought Myah home, she had a hypoglicemia episode the second night and almost died. She wasn't eating very well, and her blood sugar dropped over night. Good thing I had some Nutrical handy and rushed her to the vet. I'm not sure if you have that by you or not, but you'd should have some karo syrup or even pancake syrup handy. Good luck, I'm sure others will come and give you some better pointers. |
I'm sorry I can't help with this. I have looking and looking for a post that describes a great routine for a new puppy. I am getting my puppy the last week in Oct. (age 13 weeks) and I would love to know a routine of sleep, play, eat, rest, train. My Maltese is 3 and I just can't remember. |
A 7 week old puppy should still be nursing a couple of times a day. I suggest you Take him back until he is old enough to be taken from his mother. At this age my puppies are being supplemented with goats milk and baby rice cereal with some pedigree puppy lamb and rice mixed in. |
I have already tried to explain this a number of times. In the UK puppies are generally sold at 8 weeks, even by the most reputable and experienced breeders. I am in contact with someone high up in the club here, and she is letting hers go at 8 weeks, but will keep the smaller ones for longer. They are weaned from about 6 weeks. I would keep the pup on whatever the breeder had it on, you need to get back in contact with them. They should've told you all that info already though! |
Congrats on your new puppy!! How big is she? I would give her some honey since she hasn't eaten anything yet today. She is very young and could easily get hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). If she's been eating wet food, I'd keep her on that for a few weeks, and then start introducing kibble. Orijen, Innova and Wellness are good choices. |

hi thanks for your replys over in the uk ive never known of a puppy being given to their new home at 12 weeks every where i have looked have said 6 to 8 weeks old. the breeder was gonna let her go at 8 but she phoned me and said she is eating and drinkin on her own and has been doin for a couple of weeks. i think even if i didnt want to take her home till 12 weeks the breeder would of sold her to someone else so iether way bella would of gone to a new home at 7 weeks and if i took her back the breeder prob wont have my money to give me back and there is no way i would leave my puppy and money with her she lives a hr away. she eaten something now so thats a good sign ive got her on the wet pedigree chump food. ive got her booked into the vets on the 17th to have her injections and they are gonna worm her and give her a full health check. |
Well if none of the breeders keep their pups that long...sadly, then there's nothing really you can do. I just saw pics in the other forum, and she is so cute!! |
thanks she my little princess xxx |
