Puppy having diarrhea I've been gradually changing my puppy's food from Nutro Natural Choice to Canidae All Life Stages. She's been doing great the past few days but today she had diarrhea. It was also much stinkier than normal. Is this normal? Also, I bought some Canidae canned food and was wondering when I should be introducing that? |
Oh NO! I feed Nutro Ultra and am thinking of switching to Canidae!! I do hope she feels better...maybe the switch was too fast or something? Anyway, please keep us posted on her. |
How quickly are you doing the switch? It may just be her body ridding itself of the crud from the Nutro. |
I read when changing a pups food, you should gradually change it over 10 days. I know with Lola it only took 3-5 days.... |
I may have switched her to the new food too quick. I was doing it over a course of 4 days. I'm going to feed her rice and chicken until her diarrhea goes away. Then I'll gradually re-introduce the Canidae with the rice. I'm also giving her Pedialyte to drink. I'll keep you all posted on her progress! |
How old is she? Is everything else okay? Like, drinking fine, appetite good, lots of energy, no blood in poo, not vomiting? I would do a very slow switch, esp. if she is young and/or fairly new to your home. :) |

Quick update. I've started mixing a little bit of Canidae dry food with her rice. Poop is solid now. Never thought I'd be so happy to see solid poop :) |
Update: She doesn't have diarrhea now but her pooh is still softer than usual and stinkier. She's now having rice with a little bit of Canidae. Before she would gobble up the Canidae. Since yesterday though, she will not touch it! Even if I hand feed her the Canidae, she will sniff it then walk away. I'm going to take her in to see a vet this weekend about the pooh. What should I do about the food? |
They can be so picky! I decided not to go with Canidae because the kibble looked a little big. I went with Innova puppy. I got samples of all the brands I wanted to try and picked the one Nick and Daisy liked the best. I would try to give the kibble to them as a treat - if they took it, it was a keeper. Most of them they sniffed and walked away so it wasn't a very hard decision! I hope she feels better. Good luck. |
