Food for sensitive stomachs My Yorkie was vomiting on and off for a week so I took him to the vet and she suggested I try switching his food. She gave me Prescription Diet i/d. So I switched him to that and he hasn't vomited since the switch. My only concern is this food has by-products. I had him on Wellness which I think is better but apparently his stomach can't handle it. So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for another type of dog food that is good for sensitive stomachs. |
Ive heard California Natural was great for sensitive stomachs. It has minimal ingredients. California Natural Dog Food, Natural Cat Food & Nutritious Dog Treats – Natura Pet Products Good Luck! |
Are you sure it was his food and not a bug he picked up or something else he ate? Which Wellness product were you using? |

my dog has the ultamit sensitive stomach; she was diagnosed with gastritis; tried many food and she kept throwing up; even tried NV raw medalion since everyone suggested it; but thew up after 5 min however, one food she's been doing great on and that's the honest kitchen force formula; so far so good; she seems to like it and she doesnt get upset stomach with it; i add some digestive enzymes and probiotic to help her tummy; also i add 5 drops of the homeopet digestive upset and is doing wonders. you can email THK and they can send you samples. good luck |
Could have just been a bug....so you could try working Wellness back in after a while if you like that food. You could also try a ltd. ingredient food like Wellness Simple Solutions. Had he been on that wellness for a while? If so, I kinda doubt that was the culprit...but who knows. |
Pies 1st overnight stay @ the vet - along night!! My pumpkin just spent his first night @ the vets. He was having loose stools, throwing up, shaking and I could tell he had a fever. His tongue was even hot. I was told he has the flu. He also had yellow matting in his eyes. Ever time I take him to the vet he suggests that Pie eat Gerber Graduates "Lil - Sticks", which are chicken like vienna weinies found in the grocery store in the baby department. He keeps these down fine. The vet has also suggested I put Pie on Pedigree healthy digestion. He also enjoys Royal Canin for Yorkies. Sometimes I boil his chicken but he tires of that quickly. Maybe he will stop eating bugs and I can start switching between Pedigree and boilded chicken? Trial and error. I'd love to leave out the error because they can get so sick, so very, quickly. After joining this site and reading your shared wisdom I may change his food but it will have to be a slow process as his stomach is extremely sensitive. Seems they are fine one minute and sick the next. It is scary when it happens on the weekend and there is no emergency vet to contact. Pie is at home now and sleeping like the little angel he is. Glad to be aboard.:aimeeyork |
