Glucosamine supplements? What is a good glucosamine supplement for preventative type care? Bella is 3 years old and doesn't have any problems yet that i know of, but she plays so hard and jumps up high onto things even if I try not to let her. I am worried that she is going to have some problems with her joints when she gets older. What does everyone use that is safe and works good and in what dose? |
I use Cosequin. It's the only glucosamine supplement for animals that has undergone extensive testing. Yorkies need about 250mg to 300mg per day. I buy the double strenth chewable tablets and give half of one per day (they're scored down the middle & easy to break in half). |
I take Flexicose, and it is safe for animals too...In fact, they sell under three names...Human/Athlete/Pet...But I asked the company what the difference is between the 3, and they told me they were all the exact same formula, just under different names for "marketing" purposes...I haven't started Apple on it, yet, but I'm considering it...I just happen to be out, and haven't reordered it...I've been using it for several years, and find it to be very helpful for my osteoarthritis...the website is www.flexicose.com |
We are thinking of the same for our pups. We have treats/supplements for the pups. But we were thinking of an actual supplement. |
I like Cosequin also for most dogs at least. |
Is Cosequin for preventative use also? When I read about it, it seemed to be something for dogs that already have joint problems or arthritis. I know it probably wouldn't hurt her but I just want to make sure. |
Do your pups just chew it up? Snick did yesterday but today he wanted nothing to do with it. I tried adding it to yogurt, no luck. It's not the smallest chewable, even after I cut it in half. Any suggestions? Thanks- Viv |

I give Alex's daily meds to him in a tiny dab of cheese whiz - this way he looks forward to getting his special 'treat'. I've heard peanut butter works great for getting them to take pills, but the cheese whiz just seems so much neater and faster. Which kind are you giving him? |
