Car sick pup... I have yet another question for you all... My Nicky always gets sick when he travels any distance. He can make it to the vets and back without throwing up. But when we go to my sisters house (which we often do) for the weekends. I refuse to leave my babies behind, which my sister LOVES to have the little fallas around, she has two BIG dogs, that to my shock are very good with my babies. ANYHOO.. I remeber my vet saying that I can give him childrens dramine... But I cant for the life of me remember how much UGH. They said I can buy pills from them if I wanted to, or just used Dramamine, I think the lader would be cheeper lol. Does anyone know how much to give a 5 pound little fella? I think I may be calling my vet on Monday to reask them. UGH |
I would like to know the dose too. My vet recommended 25mg of gravol(is that the same drug??) Anyway that seemed way to high to me. I think that is a small child's dose. She also said every eight hours? Now gravol knocks a kid out, that much that often on my little pup just doesn't seem right. |
How old is your pup? Don't know what dosage of the dramamine would be advisable, sorry. Before you try to drugs though, you might want to try an herbal calming aid or ginger snaps--they calm the tummy :). When Stella was really little, she would get car sick on longer rides too, but once I stopped feeding her before we went for a car ride (at least within two or so hours of leaving) and she got her puppy car seat (helps keep her safe and out of my way while I'm driving...very useful!) she stopped getting sick and now she LOVES car rides because she can see out the window. I think sometimes they grow out of it too. Good luck! |
Here is the dosage information on a website I use for OTC drugs and dogs: Dramamine is an antihistamine that works well at preventing motion sickness in both cats and dogs. This drug works best if given at least ½ hour prior to travel. Dramamine Dosage ½ hour prior to travel Dogs weight amount small 12.5 milligrams medium 25 milligrams large 50 milligrams |
Ginger Snapp cookies work here. I give one about half hour before we leave..and carry a few for the ride. |
