Skin issues Hi guys, I am new to the site but joined because i need some help. One of my yorkies (Kayne) has red bumps that occasionally look like pimples on his back near is rear. He is constantly licking and bitting. The areas also have dry flakes.:thumbdown I have tried and ointment and antibiotics. The antibiotics worked for a while but as soon as his treatment was over they came back. I feed them both Royal Canin Yorkshire 28. I often have to put mixables or gravy in it to get them to eat it. I was wondering if there are any remedies I can try before I go back to the Vet. Are there recommended foods, shampoos or anything else? Thanks for your help in advance.:aimeeyork |
hmmm... don't know much about that type of skin issues- but I would suggest changing his food. I believe Royal Canine contains corn which can cause skin problems as it is an allergen to dogs. Also stay away from any food that has chicken as its main protein as that too is an allergen (my Layla is horribly allergic to chicken). Hopefully someone else can help further- but that would be my first attempt at solving the problem. |
Thank you for your help...:) |
What did the vet tell you was causing the bumps??? When we first got Tootsie she was itching like crazy~but no bumps at first!!! Breeder was feeding her Purina Puppy Chow. We put her on Iams~still itchy! We took her to the vet and he told us she had allergies!!! She ended up with Staph infection from scratching so much. She had to be put on antibiotics and a half tablet of Zyrtec daily... So after talking with some people on YT-I decided to change her food! I put her on Natural Balance Limited Ingrediant Sweet Potato & Venison!!! It is an allergy free formula..Also, changed her shampoo & conditioner to Biogroom Anti-itch Oatmeal (shampoo) and Silk (conditioner). It has taken about 8 weeks but she is now off of the Zyrtec and has stopped the itching... dwerten on YT was a great help-you might want to pm her for some advice. She also has a baby with allergies!! Good luck with your little one and please keep us posted... |
The vet thought that it was fleas at first:eek: He had been getting regular flea treatment so I didn't think it was that. She then said that it could be allergies. She gave me 1/4 tablets to give him for 2 weeks and they worked:D but just noticed about a week ago that they are back with a vengeance. A lady at the dog park said tea tree oil. I have just recently gotten a different type of food and shampoo. Hoping that the changes help! Thank you for your advice and I will keep YT posted. |
