Thank you to everyone for their opinions - I postponed Darwin's neutering and will do his blood test next week. I was lucky that I only have to wait one more week and then he can have his surgery - our vet's office has become extremely busy so I was surprised with such a short wait. Just a quick note. Darwin has been getting some adult hair mixing up with his puppy coat so we (my husband and I) decided to try to shave him tonight. I couldn't believe that my husband took over with the grooming and did a really great job. He was sooooo against me getting a Yorkie and just look at him now!! Our other puppy (14 months) is a 115 pound 3/4 Pyrenees/Lab mix so we have an ongoing battle (in fun) trying to show which dog is tougher. Of course, as Darwin hasn't been neutered yet my favourite saying to my husband is "well, at least my dog got balls" LOL:D |

I would NEVER put my baby through surgery without making sure he/she was healthy to withstand it. Blood work shows a lot! I agree, we as humans have to do it, so why shouldnt they? They are just as important! |

I can't imagine taking a chance on something going wrong to save 40-60 dollars. I had an older male Yorkie going in for dental and they called me and said if they had put him under with his BUN and Creatine levels he wouldn't have woken up, So yes I have had it detect something. |

Thanks for asking this question. I don't even have my puppy yet, but a spay is necessary down the line. This was a question I had! Great info and insights to have! |

Well, we had Darwin's blood test done today and we find out results tomorrow. Here's hoping that everything is fine!! |

don't think we have blood tests in the UK.. 2 girls and 1 boy neutered in past few months..and loads of cats over the years and not once been offered blood tests prior  |

Jemma had her blood test Sat. Haven't heard anything so I'm calling today to confirm everything was OK |

I'm curious about this. When I've taken mine in for their spay/neuter, I've always elected to have bloodwork done and they do the bloodwork the same morning as the surgery. Is there a more extensive test and do you have to get it prior to the day of surgery? |

YAY - I just received the results from Darwin's blood test - everything was really good - my vet seemed really happy and said it should be no problem with his getting neutered next week - wish us luck! |
