yeast infection any experience here!? Sadie went for shots last night and i showed the vet her rash on her tummy and by her privates. i've been cleaning it off and keeping it clean, but it comes back and he said it might be a yeast infection and gave me a cream for it. anyone else had experience with this!? Thanks, Rachel |
You mentioned that you were "cleaning it off". Are you doing this by means of washing it? Yeast is a fungal, which means it grows in high moisture areas. If you are cleaning this off by means of water, you are accentuating the problem. Just use the antifungal cream , I am assuming that they vet gave you, and keep the area dry. That should eliminate the environment that is encouraging its growth. Hope this helps. |
I agree with lil fu fu girl, and I was wondering if she'd been on any antibiotics, as these can kill "good" bacteria, that keep the yeast at bay. Yeast is all around us and present in the air, overuse of antibacterial cleansing soaps, as well as antibiotics can throw the system out of balance, and a yeast infection will result. Plain yogurt, the unsweetened kind, with live bacteria can add the good bacteria back to the intestinal track, and get the body back in balance, and an antifungal cream should be used as an external measure. By the way, some of the baby-wipe tissues might contain antibacterial properties, which may lead to a yeast infection. |

thanks for the help. i think i'll just use warm water and dry the area throughly and then apply the cream for the next two weeks until we go back!! that sound like it will work better? |

A compromised immune system can lead to their inability to fight infections like this and others. Feeding a diet of real food is best, but make sure you always give them vitamins every day as well. |
Does she only have yeast in that one spot? Did the vet check between toes, under armpits, inside and around ears, neck? Just like in humans, a yeast infection is usually on the inside - starts in small intestine. It's possible she has a local yeast infection. But if there is yeast elsewhere and this is not going away - you need a lot more than a cream. She'd need oral Diflucan x 6wks. Either way, you should give her probiotics - this is the one I use: Nature's Farmacy - Store - Product Details You need to populate her sm. intestine asap w/ the right flora. Human yogurt is great, but you'd have to give her a ton of it for her to get enough of the species in her system. |
