Help ... I'm freaked out feeding raw I'm switching molly over to raw and she has been fine and loves it.. Today is has gone twice. Fine the first time but the second time it looked almost like it was in a slimy bubble with food on the inside. I know this is gross but the only thing I can think of that it really looked like was when you see a new born puppy that still with the sac around it... As anyone seen something like this and what might it be? I'm kinda freaked out to be honest! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/ima...tons/quote.gif |
No, I'm feeding raw and haven't seen anything like that...Could it have been bad, thawed out and frozen or something? The NV raw I'm feeding has been nice and firm and formed and pink on the inside, but kinda light brown on the outside (from air)...I don't think I would feed what you described...I'd probably have put it in a baggy and taken it back and asked for an explanation... |

food fine It was around her poop..so it wasn't the food ! But thanks for answering |
Now You Tell Me LOL...Well, I don't have as much of an opinion on poop, as I do food...But I'm glad, what you described was coming out, instead of going into your pup lol... |

Did you just switch? It could be a little mucus. Anytime a dogs food is changed suddenly there is likely to be a few intestinal upsets until they get use to it, but if there is no diarrhea or vomiting, it doesn't sound bad to me. That's why kibble feeders do a food switch very slowly, but most raw feeders seem to do the switch quite suddenly, and some dogs experience more distress than others. |

Mucus is a sign of something going on/some irritation - but since it's there during a food change, I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially if the poo is formed. :) Oh, and also - sometimes you'll see mucus at the *end* of a poo, and that's usually the anal glands performing a normal emptying, which is good. |

What is raw? Lots of ways to go raw - just do a search and you'll find several posts and threads here on YT. Personally, I choose to feed a homemade raw diet with human grade ingredients (hamburger, ground turkey, rice, eggs, spinach, etc) - lots cheaper than $1 per day, lots safer than dog food and lots cleaner than tossing a piece of chicken. |
