teeth problems Have a 8year old yorkie, brush her teeth at least once a week. The teeth look good white no plague, just noticed the bottom front teeth is loose and top front tooth is loose. Really puzzled about this because her teeth look fine and last year the vet told me that she had great teeth for the yorkie bred. Any info would be helpful. |
There has been another thread posted regarding tooth loss in our Yorkies...It seems to have many of us puzzle'd and taking extra effort to care for our Yorkie(s) teeth. Regarding your Yorkie, you mentioned that you took her to the vet over a year ago and had confirmed that her teeth were fine. I am as you "learning" all there is to be known about Yorkies and their teeth, but I am thinking that as humans our teeth can change drastically within a year; cavities (yet I have read that dogs don't get cavities) plague, tarter, bone loss, gum residing, etc. With this said maybe another vet check up can confirm the condition of your Yorkie's teeth and your options. ;) Please let us know what your vet says, as again, we are all learning as much as we can regarding our Yorkie (s) teeth. I have heard that it is very common in toy breeds to have tooth loss. (just wanted to throw that tid bit in there) :p |
You may want to have your wee one scheduled for a cleaning...It is my understanding that yorkies over the age of 3 need their teeth professionally cleaned at least once a year..... some are fortunate enough not to require this, but your vet MUST make that determination. Just like us, some Yorkies require more attention to their teeth and gums than others. I'm sure genetics plays a role, as well as diet, chewing habbits, etc.........just like us. I would call your vet and see if this is a service they provide without anethesia, or if they can recommend someone for this service. Hope this helps!!!!! |
