There are lot of different kinds of hernias it depends on type of hernia. Lots of hernias are genetic. Why would you want to pass this defect on? JMO:aimeeyork:animal-pa:animal-pa |
hernia it depends on the location, if it exacly on the navel, then more than likely it is not genetic, yes it needs to be fixed, some vets say leave them alone they can pull in theirselves, also straining from pooping can poop a navel hernia, have your vet check it, but more than likely it is not genetic, so many people post that they are, but having an uncle who taught california vet school, and being a vet for over 40 plus years, there is no scientific evidence that lead to navel hernias being heritary, we see them more in short nose breeds than any breed, due to their nose is so short, when they go to pull on the umbiblical cord, they get to close due to how short the nose is, then they pop one, read about it on vet chats, they will tell you they are not a heritary defect...:) |
We have Australian Cattle Dog who was the only one in the litter born with a hernia. The vet checked hers out and she was fine to breed. She is four now and there is no evidence she ever had this. Just make sure to have a vet check it before you breed your dog and it should be fine. While umbilical hernias have a genetic cause, the other types of hernias are not. Good Luck. |
